Color Mavens help?

So my kitchen currently has some sheetrock, some flooring and nothing else!

(work has begun and I am very happy).

Here are the pix of my selections,

I would like your opinions on these colors for the walls. I will also post a drawing of the layout to give you an idea that really the wall color will only be above the pantry closet, and then the eating area. (the kitchen part is all cabinets). The eating area is where the view is from , which is approx 120 by 14 with a sliding door at the back.

The tricky part is the flooring and the countertops. The cabinets in the perimeter are white. The island is the darker wood. The counter is a quartzite NACARADA. It really looks great in person in real life.

These are the colors I am considering for the walls....

Get away from the browns and tans. You have quite enough of that already. I don't think that countertop works well with your flooring.

You need a designer. You’re putting together puzzle pieces that don’t fit.

I appreciate your comments, and your taking the time to offer a helpful reply.

I am happy with the choices and recognize that the tones are tricky but again, in my home, these work well. I am really hoping someone can recommend a paint color that would work well.

Another one I forgot to add was GM Gentle Cream.

Do you think an even lighter off white would be preferable?

Are you planning to do a backsplash?

I agree that you need some color in there. What are you planning in adjacent rooms? Does this connect to other rooms such that the paint needs to be continued into other areas?

Salonva, you’ve come this far without asking for opinions, why start now, with paint color? For one thing, the colors will look different from screen to screen.

You haven’t mentioned a backsplash, which is okay, since that should be the last element selected...along with paint.

I‘ve seen your name around for a while. I’m sure you‘ve seen pics of my kitchen, which also has very few painted areas. What I did, was coordinate the backsplash with the paint color. My backsplash is celadon green crackle tile, and the paint in the nook, above the sink window, and above the French doors to the dining room, are a coordinating color from BM. This gives continuity to both, while adding color to my all wood kitchen.

Trust your gut. Look at backsplash tiles, find what you like, and then find a paint to tie the two together.

The room is pretty much unto itself. It does adjoin our living room which is ivory BUT I have tons of blue. Navy couches, navy accents, lots of blue and white and colorful vases and plates there. I would for sure entertain a color on the wall; honestly if you could steer me to something I am open. When I look at blues, I don't see it for the walls in that room but maybe I need someone to suggest one? I have never been a green lover sorry to say.

Megs, the thing is the ceiling has been totally ripped and the drywall behind cabinets removed. Since they need to paint anyway ( even though there will be backsplash, I guess just to even prime it...it seemed like I should just decide and get it done now. You make a good point. I will see if they can just drywall and paint the ceiling and maybe just prime the cabinetry walls. (I am just afraid that I will never decide. The eating area has not been wrecked and is an ivory shade as well. (definitely needs refreshing as it was here when we moved in 2 years ago).

Darbuka I recognize your name as well but I don't remember your kitchen which is really lovely and warm.

I haven't decided on a backsplash but was honestly thinking of something along the lines of white /creamy subway or hive. I think the counter top is busy and I think plain is what I am picturing.

So again, I do appreciate the feedback but I am not so creative and somehow I don't see a color really working for backsplash or walls, but I am open to your suggestions.

I'm definitely not a color maven but a nice mid-range blue could work in there and tie into your other accent colors. We used SW Rain in one room and I liked it way more than I thought I would. However, others are way better at color than I am.

I agree a very straightforward warm white subway would be perfect.

Now that I see what you are working with. I would go with the lightest cream colors not Manchester Tan that we spoke about.

Are you definite with the quartzite? If so I would pull the lightest cream from the counter to do the backsplash. I would have the walls relate to this light color as well.

Warning: sometimes it is so very difficult to get a backsplash that will coordinate with a granite. I would get a sample and take it around to see if it’s easy to match.

Pulling all of this together is a process and not for the faint of heart.

I’m now doing a master bath and when I enter a showroom and ask for opinions I always say, “here is my idea, but I’m not married to it.” Being open is key.

The counter does have white and cream in it.

    This is what WAS

Removing peninsula, adding island perpendicular to that, moving fridge, etc etc but to show that the eating area is pretty much untouched. Adding lots of recessed and undercabinet lighting as well.

    This is it today.:)

Trying again. wonky wonky won't let me add.

this shows the walls and ceiling now.

It's really hard to know how any color you see online will look in any particular space. Since you are starting with fresh drywall, I understand wanting to get the paint on the wall before the cabinets are installed. But since you aren't going to be able to properly evaluate the color with all the rest of the stuff, don't spend too much time trying to pick the perfect color--because there's no way you will know until later. I recommend trying to pick a pretty good but also pretty innocuous color, and committing to reevaluating after everything is in. If it is pretty good and innocuous, then if you never get around to reevaluating, it will still be okay.

Based only on what I see online, Early Sunset skews much pinker than the rest of the choices. Hazelnut cream is on the peachy side. The others are in the yellow family. I think my top three would be Natural Choice, Creamy, and Egret White, in that order. But neutrals, especially light neutrals, are notoriously sensitive to the effects of different light, so you are really the only person in the position to judge.

I am still considering just having them paint the ceilings and prime the rest (while leaving the eat in area alone) but I do think Cawaps made a good point. I may just try to find a good solution with an off-white and at least it will be freshly painted and finished so to speak.

If it works then great if not, there really won't be that much repainting (just the tiny piece of wall above the pantry closet and the pretty unencumbered eating area walls.

Eld thank you for your suggestions about picking one of the light tones from counter and using for paint and backsplash.

Crcollins, Rain is a beauty but wouldn't work for me in this room. (but might be nice in some others in my house).

I still would entertain a blue but whatever I look at doesn't seem to hold me. I think if I paint an off-white I can then evaluate once everything is really there.

Other than the eat in area where there are skylights and a patio door, the room always had the worst lighting so I think at least I will be able to judge things more clearly. Actually the wall color will only be with the counter top at the far end of the sink wall ( lower left in drawing).

So I have a Sherwin Williams color deck (it's massive but still not complete) which has most of the colors I was looking at.

    Creamy i SW 7012 i LRV 81 is good-

Then I spotted Moderate White SW 6140 LRV 74 and really think that could be a winner. Moderate White, ( sorry words are hazy but I think it's the fourth full one from the bottom) I like it because it also seems to work well with the floor, and while still very subdued, it has a bit more depth. But always open to feedback.

Egret White i LRV 70 s a bit too green-gray and Natural Choice 73 is good but a bit dim.

So if you are still following me (thank you) I will be deciding a color by tomorrow. They can paint and at least it will be fresh and clean and done. As I said, IF I need to or decide to repain ti won't be massive and maybe, please maybe, this might be good.

So what do you think? Moderate White? Creamy?

Salvona, I haven't read the whole thread but saw that you have a Sherwin Williams paint deck. Our SW has a service where a color designer comes out to your house FOR FREE and will help you select colors! They will look at the rest of that floor, other colors/furniture that you have and make suggestions. You have absolutely nothing to lose by taking advantage of their free consult if it's available to you. Good luck!

Our Sherwin Williams stores are not offering that now. They used to. They will give sample cards and of course you can buy paint. I think it's a few weeks away from that. With the timing of everything, since I don't have a ceiling and all of that and they will have to paint it and prime the walls, they will paint while everything is open and cabinetry is not in so they can get it done (and for a great price) so that is why I am anxious to do it. Wow what a long winding sentence.!

Based on the two most recent pics, I think I like Moderate White a bit more than Creamy. Good luck!

Awesome cawaps- thank you. I am 98% Moderate White. They won't be painting tomorrow so I can sleep on it I guess..

I am going to try to run around the house with the color deck and get some ideas for our bedroom and bathroom and powder room and....

Just wanted to update that while the kitchen is still a work in progress.... it's been painted with Moderate White walls and Pure White Trim.

    It looks great!

<There is a piece of me that is contemplating a pale pale blue at some point if when all is said and done I think it needs something but> I am even more pleased than I thought I would be. The Moderate white looks great with the floor, with the cabinets, and the counter (for which we just templated yesterday so it will be a little more than a week I think).
