I think it looks smashing!!....get a sample of the tile and mess with it...the way it spots will depend on the glaze etc. I have matte quarry tile in multi colors in the sunroom.....and it doesn't show much at all.

If you can. We have matte black as kitchen splash and it’s fine. (We have hard water)

Matte and dark will show every fingerprint, makeup or hair product splash, toothpaste spittle spray, or soap bubble..

Just stayed at a home with black matte marble counter tops. They showed every splash and drop, of water. When clean, they are gorgeous. But black matte tiles would not be my first choice.

BUT.....a backsplash wouldn't get the toothpaste etc that a counter top gets.

Thank you all. I did dump water over the sample tile multiple times, and let it dry, and it looks pretty good! Not sure why I didn't even THINK of putting the sample through its paces!

I also realized that my son currently has a mirror that extends down to the top of the vanity, and these tiles aren't going to look any worse than his mirror does. And it usually looks clean. So we're set to proceed. Thanks for all of your thoughts!

I manage to get toothpaste on the bathroom mirror regularly.
