I like it..how long have you been working on it?..the maple looks established..

I know gardens take time and energy..I've been working here 15 years..and of course I'm not finished..

I remember seeing photos from the ravine for several years! Always fun to see the progression.

We had a "ravine" put in years ago (we call them dry stream beds here). I never thought of hostas alongside it but wished I had thought of that.

I have 3 different types of Asian jasmine on it (it is aggressive but can be beaten back into some submission with hedgers, heavy duty weed whacker and some Round-Up).

Tricolor Asian jasmine ( Trachelospermum asiaticum)was the first (3 one gallon pots) and they spread through the bed on to the next side.

I carved out a spot around the climbing rose so I wouldn't have to battle the vine and fight thorns at the same time. I also made a huge mistake by letting native cross vine grow so it is very aggressive too and among the jasmine.

The other part of this bed has two different Asian jasmines in it - 'Summer Sunset' and 'Snow N Summer'

Snow N Summer looks nice with pink and white new leaves.

hc, I keep the weeds and grass down with Roundup. I leave the leaves there to compost. I have a couple of spots of creeping Jenny and that is spreading. So far not a problem.

When I hit like on Sherry it shows up on Nichol and vice versa. Would you two stop fooling around!

Jon your place sounds a bit like my yard, except I am in a city and have a small yard. But, I have a Tudor house with lannon stone trim. For 30 years I have been digging up lannon stone.......I swear, when the house was done, they just threw the leftovers on the ground and covered them over! I don’t have a ravine like you, but I have used them for pathways and decorative features. Love your ravine!

Jon..don't you just love (sarcasm) the glitches on Gardenweb?..one glitch I have..I don't get notifications when newhostalady comments (and sometimes others too)..it's so annoying..

Debra, Mother nature put all these stones around me. In back of me was a gravel pit that about 5 years ago was dug out for cranberry bogs that were not put in because the bottom fell out of the market. About 3/4 of a mile back there is a man made pond that was built to be pumped out and flood the bogs that never were. It is gorgeous and a great destination for a walk.
