Tiles around a fireplace

Hello Houzzers!
I am considering tile around this fireplace and would welcome views on whether this would make the surrounding windows and walls seem disproportionately small. (I am not a fan of the windows to start with as I find the rounded top is very dated - but that’s another story!) I would also welcome views on the layout of the tiles. Thank you in advance for your input and ideas!

The windows and fireplace are all in the same plane - most pictures on Houzz show windows which are recessed from the fireplace or on a separate wall. We are putting a linear gas fireplace (Regency Horizon 40’’) in so that the bottom of the fireplace is even with the bottom of the windows. The space between the windows is roughly 7’x6’. The tiles I am considering are 24x48 in I Marmi, Azur. I was going to paint the wall above and around the windows in a medium grey (Sherwin Williams 233-C1/SW 7661).

Any work involving a natural gas line should be done by a professional. If the arched windows are staying, the decision needs to be made soon. The venting, bracing and structural support required for the fireplace should be in the installation instructions.
I would find a licensed installer through the business where you purchased the fireplace.

While the tiles are very beautiful...i would hesitate to put that much color in the surround..it may be too limiting to your decor choices...what if you find a couch you love but it doesn’t go with the fireplace..etc...it is also questionable that that type of fireplace will look right with those arches...

It also appears the size of the tile will be also problematic...i can see why you are scratching your head on this one

Thanks for those thoughts. The point about limiting future decor options is important and I will think on that. If i do go ahead with the tile, is it better to fill the space between the windows with tile or limit the tile to the width of the fireplace and go up to the base of the centre window?

At the proposed size.. 24x48....wont one tile exceed the width of the fireplace?...it seems unworkable to me...the type of tile and style of fireplace and windows sizes are at battle here..i am not a matchy ....follow the rules person...but this seems an impossible combination...smaller tiles..perhaps...but the pattern may not show as well on smaller tiles...too many negatives here

Yeah I am afraid so. Hubby has his heart set on that fireplace so that’s going in. I love the tiles and wanted to attract attention away from the windows. Now I am reluctantly coming to the conclusion that you are right. Just paint the darn wall and put a painting over the fireplace. Appreciate your thoughts- thanks!

Ah...so hubby will be happy..thats good...after this is done..post again with a picture of the whole wall..there may be some other ideas to make these conflicting features blend together better....

If you win the lottery or something ...have the arches changed to rectangles and the whole world will get better...

Here is a wider angle shot of the wall if that helps anyone to give me ideas. Thank you in advance

I would do smaller limestone-ish stacked stone, floor to the bottom of the arched window above...still neutral, but adds some focus and interest.
