Before and after climbing roses

here is a before and after picture of some roses.

Iceberg, Colorific and Westerland were planted 4 1/2 years ago. Aloha and The impressionist in 2017. One of the roses I think it’s Jude the Obscure (I’m not sure) were planted 2 years ago. Candy Land climbing Rose still very tiny, I planted yesterday by the metal white fence

In reality, the picture does not do the roses justice. they just started blooming. So, I’m really looking forward to see how full they will get in the next couple days. So far, the colors are vibrant, and the plants are healthy. 👌 That means a lot to me because my husband asked someone to spray weed killer through the entire property last year. It almost killed everything. I think I lost 10 roses due the poisoning And to add more to that disgraceful event , we didn’t have a single bloom. I spent the entire spring and summer doing tons of soil amendment Trying to save them. Seeing all my roses coming back to life it’s very satisfying. I can’t describe the feeling, I just smile every morning knowing that I still have a garden.

@mattgrowsflowers PA z6 hi! I got this rose as a band at Heirloom. It come as a twig and defoliated. It struggled forever. I think for 2 years it didn’t grow a inch. For sure a slow grower for me. I kept because I paid $40 for it and I didn’t have the courage to put it in the garbage. But since you commented about this rose, I’m almost sure this is the first year I see flowers on this rose bush. And STILL, small and skinny. In her defense i think it put some new branches this year. I got another rose called Portlandia from Heirloom as well. Amazing rose. It just had one flower. It was heavenly. I also paid $40. But it come so small that didn’t make by fall.

WOW, just wow. You have an incredible garden! I so appreciate seeing the before photos! My garden is very much in the before stage. Gives me hope!

That's crazy about the weed killer and all the roses you lost--so sorry to hear that... But you it looks like all the hard work you put into saving what you had left has really, really paid off. Seriously amazing!

Is the 6th photo from the top The Impressionist? I planted that one as well this spring, it's soooooo tiny, and I don't think I will see a bloom from it this year. That one is particularly gorgeous, whichever it is! That one and the one right below it are my favorites.

Wow...I can believe it makes you happy.. it's neat how you hung in there with your slow starter and kept trying when you had a big setback with the herbicide. Your roses are smiling back at you! I like The Impressionist.

@Janaina (Zone 6B - Maryland), I'm drooling. Thanks so much for sharing more photos and giving me more info on that rose. The blooms look like a perfect rose for my tastes. But I sure am not looking forward to the slow growth :( I am in zone 6A in Pennsylvania so it sounds like I might have the same problem...

@rosecanadian yep! But he is something else. He feels remorse about what happened last year but he loves his grass. He dreams to have a golf course lush’ grass in our backyard. We did many grass treatments, reseeding and nothing works. So this year he decided kill the weeds with a flamethrower. 🙄 But thanks the Lord he stayed at the driveway. Can you believe he put fire on my Clematis and destroyed a bunch of hydrangeas. I laugh every time I think about it. Best medicine

Oh, I bet your husband is glad he has you Janaina. I might have buried him in the backyard by now between the herbicide and the flamethrower. That would be too much for me.

I have to agree, Janaina, you're an angel. There's no telling what I might have said or done, but at any rate your roses are absolutely flourishing now, thanks to you. Good for you for hanging in there with The Impressionist. It's such a pretty rose.
