Need Advice! Do I paint shutters or just remove?

Hi! My house is aluminum siding (faded white) with black trim which I HATE, and black plastic shutters. I want to paint my trim and possibly the shutters but if I paint the trim white I'm worried it will look bad against the already faded white house siding. Next dilemma is the shutters do I keep and paint a light sage/ minty green or navy? Any suggestions!! Thx in advance!! Photo below.

For a modern look, just remove the shutters entirely (that's what I would do).

I'd remove the shutters. Not really a good idea with double windows. A wide trim around the windows would be better. Your siding and roof colors leave it wide open for trim and door color choices.

I really like the black trim. Since those current shutters are too small, you could always remove them. The windows you have don't really work w/shutters. just do some 1x3 trimwork casing around the windows. you can paint that white if you like, but I really like the black.

add some cedar window boxes to the bottom story windows

Remove them. Add lantern lights that are 1/3 of the door's height. Paint the black horizontal line running under the windows from the hand railings to match your siding color so it doesn't chop up your house. Can you do something like this around the door?

If you remove the shutters there will most likely be a color difference due to fading. If that’s the case, maybe just paint your door and screen, change the lights, add an outdoor mat and urns and your entrance will be a welcoming focal point.

If you don’t like the trim, you could easily paint it as close as you can to the siding and even add black window boxes. Your house will take on a cottage feel and would be really cute!

I agree to get rid of the plastic shutters, but replace them with real wood ones. If you don't like black, I'd go with a classic forest green instead.

Take the shutters off. Your windows are not right for them. The only problem is that the siding might be a different shade of white since they were not exposed to sunlight.

Sabrina's photo is a good example of how shutters should be done regarding sizing and style. You can see how the shutters are sized more appropriately for the windows. They also appear to be functional, but even decorative shutters should be sized in the same way.

Thank you all for your suggestions and comments!! I have so FAR decided regardless I will add 2 cedar window boxes on first floor, and add 2 larger lights. I took off shutters on the side of house to not make such an eyesore to see how the condition is underneath and how 'off' the color is. (Picture below.) I sprayed it down with water but tomorrow am going to try to scrub with some bleach and separately a vinegar/ baking soda mixture in hopes to match the colors. ANY other suggestions to clean the aluminum siding??

    maybe try Krud Kutter?

    1. Remove the shutters. They don't fit the windows. I think you need bigger front porch lights. They look small. If the front porch steps are painted, I'd change the color to maybe a rusty red . Hang some ferns or some other flowers evenly on each side of the stairs. purchase some pretty pots for flowers on porch on each side of door.

Try Miracle Mist which is a spray on and let work cleaning product. I bought mine at the paint store but my local Ace Hardware carries it also. I am not a much of a believer for most no scrub products but this one works. I used it on a metal garage door and wood siding and it doesn't need much elbow grease.

Another cleaner to try would be Dirtex but it is more work. In any case, wash from the bottom up so you don't get streaks.

Wet & Forget is a great product if there's mold, mildew and green gunk to get rid of.
