Kitchenette countertop

last modified: 6 years ago

I had new countertops and the installer offered to do the kitchenette countertop for $250...I just had to pick a remnant he had. I don't know if it was because I was tired, or maybe it was really bright outside, but I chose this color. I hate it. I'm mad because I did it hastily. My good friend is an optimist, and telling me to embrace it, paint the walls an orange to work with the taupe color

. Any suggestions? I can't complain, I chose it and they did a great job of installing the counters. I will post my main kitchen soon....I am ordering the tile and installing the backsplash next week in that space.

It looks nice, but you so not need tile because you already have a 4” backsplash.

I agree that you do not need a backsplash. The white walls look good with the countertops.

Oh no...sorry. I wasn't clear. I meant I was going to be tiling for my other countertops in my primary kitchen before posting pictures....

Here, in the kitchenette, it's just the 4" short backsplash. thank you for your advice. The walls are bluish gray, I will change it to the creamy white. Maybe that will help.

I like it! Right now everything is so close, that the wall color just washes over it.

paint the walls a diff color and it will look better. (even a black wall(or look at some of the darker colors in the photo ) would look great)

I don't know about orange, because of the yellow cabs. (you'd have to find the perfect orange color to compliment that wood and the gray countertop. I put some in the photo)

Blue or even that blueish/green color in that wall hanging might be a nice choice.

I really like the two dark ones on the right (SW) and I like the Flower Pot, and the golden orange tones. If you want something cooler toned, look to the blue greens.

    names are at the bottom

I would look for a real contrast not a match...or blend ...the cabinet color looks pretty good with the counter

    I think it's wonderful, neutral...

If you hate it, if you have another $250, and if your counter guy has another remnant piece of counter you like, you can try again with a different color. We all make a mistake now and then. Fortunately yours was relatively inexpensive in the world of remodeling. Or you can accept it and paint the walls a pleasing color....maybe to match the cabinet.

I agree with Feliz. If you really hate it, replace it with another remnant.

But, since this is not your primary kitchen, and you have other things to do, I say wait a while. Go in the second time with a vision of what you want.

Is this a tiny little space?..is it attached to the kitchen?

What is the view into this room from the adjoining space?

Thank you all very much for all of your feedback. This is a very small kitchenette, and it's part of my renovated garage. Beth, thanks for all of the color options. Feliz and Eld6161, thanks for the perspective! I will live with it and try to paint the walls with a contrasting color. I wish there were a window in the space, but I will be removing the door that opens into the space and it will brighten it up.
