I say ask the neighbor to come in and water once a week and pay her a little money.

:) I did that. One time my friend forgot to come. Another time he messed up something ( I think he overwatered it) and the plant died anyway 🤦

I've been a member of the Indoor Gardening Society for about 20 yrs. I believe I heard this thru them.

A wet towel in your tub w/ the plants left on top of it, so that they plants can absorb water from the towel as needed in your absence (requires plastic or terra cotta pots w/ holes, glazed ceramic pots won't work). I think I've also heard of doing it w/ layers of newspaper. Experiment before traveling,

I'm guessing one should try squeezing out the towel in differing amounts & also try folding the towel in different amounts, so that there might be 2 layers vs 4 layers.

You could also experiment w/ temporary a wicking set up, which now that I think of it, might be easier.

The problem w/ self-watering pots is that you can't adjust the watering as needed, say for example for seasonal changes.
