Great little hosta, I think you are right not BME. Here is one of my Blue Mouse Ears.

It’s a nice looking hosta. I am not sure about it being BME...... at first I thought no, but after looking at mine, I think, maybe.

Initially, I thought the leaves on BME are more rounded. So I went out to take a couple of photos and I see even on my own, some leaves are very round and others have a more elongated and curved shape. One thing is for sure, it always gets these little white dots on it. At least this plant does. Sherry, do you notice this on any of yours?

Methinks it looks more like 'Blue Moon'. Leaves seem too pointed for BME.

It looks like Blue Moon. If it is you'll know since it will grow backwards and die.

The flower will tell. BME has really dense flower bundles.

Blue Moon? Never heard of it. Maybe because it doesn't grow well as Mikgag says?

I agree with you Debra that the flowers will tell me whether it is BME or not. Aren't the white marks you mentioned made by slugs?

My thought was Blue Ice which is related to Blue Moon and another sometimes difficult to grow hosta.

Those white marks aren’t holes and I heavily treated my yard last fall and this spring with the ammonia drench. I don’t have signs of slugs anywhere, believe it or not.

I'm raising some hostas and companions for our Hosta Club sale (delayed this year)... one of the plants I have is Blue Monday... they look a lot like yours, NHL. But as stated above - the flowers will be more of an indication.

I see from the Hosta Library that Blue Moon and Blue Monday are considered "small" size whereas Blue Ice is considered a "mini/small." Maybe Blue Ice is smaller just because it is not a good grower----the Hosta Library says it is a slow or very slow grower (and Chris said it was difficult to grow)! Also Hosta Library says Blue Ice has lavender flowers (twice) and then says it has white flowers (three times)! Confusing! I always consider it a bad sign when there aren't that many pictures of a hosta in the HL even though the hosta has been around a long time.

My friend said the flowers formed a garland above the hosta which made me think of BME. I'll ask her more questions and see if I can find out anything else.

Debra, I always thought the white marks were where slugs tried to eat away but found the leaf too thick. Perhaps it's just damage from falling branches etc.?

Interesting that the hosta NOID I have looks similar to your Blue Monday, Windymess.

My "like" button and "thank" button do not work properly. Sometimes it lets me "like" and "thank" and other times it doesn't. Sometimes when I come back to the post, the "likes" have disappeared!

Nice to see you too, newhostalady :) Thinking about this a little more, I think you are right that it is more likely Blue Moon. Blue Ice would probably not have nearly so many eyes and probably wouldn't be a ready candidate for division at any time in its life LOL

I have one called Dorset Blue that looks a lot like your NOID, too. Maybe the flowers will help solve the mystery.

Well, this hosta is a puzzle! The pictures of the hosta possibilities show hostas that seem to be larger than this hosta I received. This hosta is so tiny. It is also very blue. My picture above does not reflect this maybe because I took the picture at dusk. I must ask my friend if the size of the leaves of her hosta get larger. I'll let you know if I find out more information. Thanks everyone!

So I will be looking out for the flowers on this little blue NOID next season to see if we can get closer to an ID. I was sorting through some pictures taken from private gardens in the last few years, and I found this photo:

and It sure bears resemblance to this hosta. Blue Ice

It sure looks like Blue Ice! It can be seen in HL as ground cover.......so cute!
