Edge for Floating Vinyl floor

We just put in a new subfloor in our laundry room and we are planning to use floating LVL planks for the flooring.

The trick is we have a hatch in the floor that leads to our crawl space. How to we do the floating edge around the hatch? We were thinking of just using some sort of bullnose trim attached to the wood underneath just to cover the edge of the vinyl.

Should we have it floating on the hatch too or just glue it down? If we glue it, will the edge look okay when you lift the trap or will we want some sort of trim anyway.

We are attaching the hatch door with a piano hinge. The door is still a work in progress the the picture below gives you an idea.

Glue the whole thing down. You can use some sort of trim to rim the hatch with. A floating floor with a hatch like that is a tough one. Floating floors need 'expansion gaps'. Those gaps need to be 6mm (1/4") or so. That's a lot of gaps needed for a room with a hatch.

You have to glue down the flooring on the hatch. You might as well glue down the whole floor and be done with it. It will cost an extra $100 worth of adhesive.

.....BUT...your hatch appears to be made of OSB. Adhesives (glue) HATE OSB. Like HATE with a passion! As in DIVORCED in a hot minute type of hate. What is your subfloor covered in? Is it proper plywood or is it more OSB?

I would look into the type of vinyl floor that does not have the core and yes OSB is not going to work with most glue. You can get vinyl flooring that just goes down each piece sticks to the one beside it and if you did that you could just cut the flooring to allow the hatch to open when needed and IMO no need for a trim piece. we used Allure from HD it looks like this I think it could work
