focus on the newer growth.. which looks fine.. to understand if there is currently anything going on.. or whether there was some minor issue back in time ... was there any cold event.. just before new growth started???

I’m in north New Jersey, about 20 miles outside of NYC. We did have one late frost in early May but other than that I can’t think of any weather events since winter. I transplanted it last fall because it was in the way of two large dying ash trees that had to be removed.
