Sorry OD, I had some big branches crashing down early in the year so it wasn't so devastating as when they have grown so much. Those puppies will come back. Again, sorry. -Jon

So sorry to hear about your hostas. We had a huge branch come down yesterday but it landed on the path between the beds and did remarkably little damage. It's aggravating, first they get frozen, then crushed. Fingers crossed it's not as bad as it looks.

Hoping you got a lot of rain with the wind. Even my damaged ones perked up when 2 inches of water soaked in.

So sorry for you, it’s devastating to see that happen to your beautiful hosta. We waited for the storm here last night, we went into the house and expected the worst we really didn’t know what would happen to our plants. We were fortunate to escape undamaged but it was a different situation just a county away. Everyone knows that storms bring high winds, hail, or falling tree branches that can devastate all of us. We know they will survive, but for now we feel your pain.

My frost bitten hosta still looks trashy. Otoh when my kid stepped on hosta last year it finally got kicked into growing faster.

Awe , that is sad to hear. One thing about hosta they are tough suckers and will survive the storm. Sure sucks in the meantime though

So frustrating! And so much work to clear away the debris and clean things up! You have a beautiful garden, Old Dirt... It will bounce back. I just hope you haven't lost a lot of important shade.

We lost a big tree earlier in the spring. Such a mess (and it was an expense to have removed)! But thankfully it missed the house, and no one got hurt. So, all in all - I'm thinking of it as an opportunity (what else can I do?).

The good news is that most if not all of your hostas will survive, the bad news is that for this year they are going to look somewhat the worse for wear. The ones that were flattened to the ground will mostly stand right back up in a couple of days, the resilience of hostas is amazing.

Be sure you leave all the stems and leaves in place, they may look terrible, but are still going to provide nourishment to the plants. In a few weeks you can do some judicious trimming as needed. You will probably have higher light levels in some spots, so keep an eye on plants that may need additional watering.

So so sad. We had a big storm yesterday on the North Shore of Boston. Lost power due to a downed branch out near the street, but no hosta damage thank goodness. I feel your pain I suspect they will recover.
