12 yr old parlor palm dying

I have had this palm for 12 years. It was thriving, lots of new shoots, etc. Then I noticed it was sitting very low in its pot. I was bored during quarantine, so I decided to remove it and add some new soil and put it back in higher up. I thought it would be helpful for it to be higher in the pot so the roots had more room. Ever since I did this, it’s been dying. Every day new shoots are dead, the lower ones first then the death moves up. Is there a way to stop this death?? Nothing else has changed. Still in the same spot, temp in house is the same and watering is the same. I know it’s from what I did, I should never have touched it. Help please!
