Patio privacy advice!

I’d like to have a little more privacy from neighbors in my back patio area. My wife and I are very skilled and competent builders/doers but I having trouble coming up with anything other than a trellis. I love the look of the horizontal wooden fences. Could we do something like that above our existing walls?

What are your local codes? Do you have a good relationship with your neighbors? It’s important to consider how it would look to them I think.

Are you basically looking for privacy from the window/door on the white wall? I think a short wall of trellis on top of the stone would look good, but how about adding some large patio umbrellas?

I love the short Trellis wall idea. space with the windows and door is our neighbors house, I just don’t want to see their faces ALL the time.

Mounting a shade sail would give privacy from the second- story windows.
