please help identify this Japanese Maple

I planted this JM back in January not knowing how big it was going to get. I thought it was going to be a slow grower. I’m planning on pulling it out of that spot and plant it somewhere in the landscape where there’s room to grow. Can someone please help me identify this type of Japanese Maple.

With close to a 1000 registered cultivars, many of which look remarkably similar, it is almost impossible to ID a JM unless it has some very unique attributes. And even then you will likely only come close.

What does that white tag in the lower left portion of your last photo belong to? It looks like it is attached to the tree...................

When I look up that name it doesn’t give me specific information.

With that tagging I would guess it is just a seedling grown species JM - straight Acer palmatum.

Thank you gardengal48 - would you recommend trimming it? It looks more like a shrub than a tree.

Not yet :-) It is still a baby and needs some time to grow into itself. Like many adolescents, it is going through a gawky stage that it will eventually outgrow. I'd give it a couple of seasons and see what it looks like and then make your pruning decisions.

Plant where you have room for a 15'-35' tree. Move it some time when the leaves are not present.
