Need help choosing gray paint

My master bedroom currently is painted revere pewter. I liked it until we changed our bath to carrera marble. Now it looks green to me. I would like a gray that has a slight blue tint. I painted samples of BM harbor beach, and Wickham gray. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated!

They are silver cloud, first snowfall, and gray cloud.

    Yep. Silver Gray.

Remove all but one. Check them out one at a time. Your eye can’t evaluate multiple colors all at once properly. Based on my experience, I can see Silver Gray works best. But on line color cannot accurately depict colors.

I think I am lo one silver gray!

Do you think Wickham gray would work in the bathroom...

Yes Wickham is ok especially with your marble. Just make sure it isn’t too dark. Great!

First snowfall works the best with your pillow colors

For the best testing result but your paint sample on top of a wider white poster board. Your samples are conflicting with the paint color you have on the wall.

Thank you... I will try that

Flo is there another color you would suggest for the bathroom? First Snowfall? Stone?...any others to look at?

First Snowfall is in the Blue Hue family but moving toward purple hue family. With your light, it might go lavender on you. I will look more tomorrow.

First snowfall goes a little baby blue in my bedroom. Northern exposure.

Bonnie - morning! I am up way too early! haha! I looked up BM Stone White and I think that could be very good and compatible with the Silver Gray too. It has an LRV of 74 and is in the Blue/Green Hue family cool segment. It just depends on the "net impression" of the marble you get. You probably will need to do a wall near that stone to get a true feel for that color or any color. I like colors in the Blue/Green Hue family for your exposure and with the grays of your marble in general. Make up bigger sample boards and see what you think. It is a trial and error situation as you doubt know!

Thanks Flo. I’m going to also pick up samples of BM paper white, Gray sky, Baby’s breath, Fanfare, and Decorators white
Ordered a lamp like the one you suggested

Bonnie, I have to apologize, had a huge project at work this week and had no energy left for anything else.

Don't forget your first goal of having the colors flow from the rest of the house and not have your bedroom look like it belongs to another home.

You can use color, but it does have to relate to the shaker beige.

I know you have gone through a lot of samples, and most of them are very light.

First thing to know is if you want a true blue or something with a touch of green - I am seeing a blue/green blue in the pillow vs a true blue.

Someone earlier had suggested Ocean Air. I like Ocean Air but it feels a bit brilliant next to the Shaker Beige. I really like the slightly toned down colors next to it in the fan deck. I would try Smoke in the bedroom and Iceberg in the bathroom.

That type of tonal value in the bedroom will feel harmonious when you walk from the hall into the bedroom, then using the lighter blue in the bathroom will flow from the bedroom into the bathroom and again give you the feeling of harmony.

To lower levels of confusion and know exactly what family of blue you are seeking get out of your atmosphere. Our minds pick up every color around us and automatically begins categorizing and prioritizing and comparing.

Don't buy more paint samples yet. Get the paper samples that are free - good enough for a start. Get a ton of blues, grays, greens. Also get several of the shaker beige unless you have a can that you can use to paint a bigger sample.

Get a white table cloth or towel or something to cover a table that you can take outside. Take your pillow and one of the gray pillow shams. Take a sample of the marble from the bathroom.

I often will take a drawer from a piece of furniture, and if you have a sample of the carpet or bathroom flooring, take those as well. (looking at your color delemma I think you can skip the flooring and furniture and just do the marble and pillows and shaker beige.

Stand the the shaker beige up on something - lean it on a book or stand on the left, then set your two pillows in the middle and then your marble on the right. Take one color sample at a time and lean them against the pillows next to the Shaker beige - walk back a few steps and look at the combination of colors. Does it feel too blue, too green, too bright, too dark. Look at it compared to the shaker beige, the pillows and the marble. You are picking for the bedroom at this point - it can be darker than the bathroom color, but shouldn't feel off when it is next to the marble - dark is okay, but clashing is not.

When you have finished evaluating the potential of the first color pick up that color and lay down your next color. Again make your mental notes. Do a third color - this time eliminate the one you like least. Keep doing this until you are left with two or three that really feel good to you with both the shaker beige and the marble and will make your heart sing when you see it with your bedding.

Now pick lighter shades of those colors and test them with your marble and the samples for the bedroom color - these don't need to work with the shaker, they need to work with the bedroom next door and the marble in the room.

Now it is time to buy samples and know that you may need to tweak something a bit to get it perfect, but you will only be buying a few samples,

    Example:

The hall leading to the bedroom is very dark it has the one window in our bedroom that faces west, but there is a large tree outside. There other windows in bedroom and bath face north, so it tends to be dark. I will try your ideas, but feel our room because of lighting really changes color. We have revere pewter and it looks green. So far, I am liking silver gray...I will try storm again...I think it went more of a blue\purple gray.
I am posting pictures of the hall, and also colors in the master bath to go with carrera marble.

These are samples against carera with the light off and on, and through the shower door.

Also, the carpet is being replaced

Marilyn’s dress goes blue. The other two won’t give you enough brightness. I will see but you really need to deal with your lighting first. I will look for a better possibility later today.

Storm doesn’t work. Silver gray still looks best for bedroom, unless you think I should pick up one shade lighter. The lights are being delivered the first week in July. Do you think stone white is too dark for the bath?

If you're changing the carpet, do that before you choose the wall color. You won't have as many carpet options as you do paint options, and they need to coordinate.

I think Silver Gray will be beautiful. Still looking for ensuite bathroom wall color. Have you ruled out a white?

No I haven’t ruled out a white, or maybe even going much darker?

The carpet color is oatmeal...very neutral. I have sample if its important, but It doesn’t have the yellow tones like the current carpet

Decorators white is a possibility...or if darker nimbus gray?

What is ceiling color? Need to keep that in mind. Do ceiling and walls same color.

Ceiling is white not sure of color...can have it repainted..crown molding is whiter than ceiling... in this picture the paint looks beige, not revere pewter

Ceiling and wall color same, leave crown molding white?

  • PRO

What is color of crown molding? Or don’t you know? Do you have piece painted like it you could get SW to do a color match? Then do walls and ceiling same in flat finish.

Do the crown molding, the ceiling and walls the same white?

What do you think about BM pearl river for the bath, and silver gray for the bedroom?

  • PRO

I thought BM Pearl River might go lavender with your lighting if I recall. I will revisit. I would strongly consider doing walls, crown and ceiling all same white but do the crown in satin finish, walls and ceiling in flat finish. I will check in Pearl River tomorrow.

Busy day tomorrow, so I thought I would offer some ideas for your bathroom wall colors. Impossible to tell much from these photos but I don’t like any of those grays for your bathroom. So I picked out two whites I suggest you get samples for. Trying to make all those gray tones in your level 4 V Stone (4 being most variable colorations) is darn near impossible. So here is mock up (very bad coloring on my iPhone but two colors. SW Extra White and Behr Ultra Extra White could work well and be nice from and with bedroom color too. See what you think.

Opps. I put wrong Behr name. It’s Behr Ultra Pure White and SW Extra White.

You are welcome. We have a medium blue gray in our bedroom and the bathroom is all white with white trim and crown. I love the look.

My new lamps came today. I love them. I got the white paint samples of Behr Ulta extra white, and SWExtra White, and put them up. I like the idea of white now in the bath👍

Great! I love it when a plan comes together. The lamps look perfect. The wall hanging is great.

Thanks for all of your help! Very much appreciated! They are going to be painting the ceiling in the bedroom too. Should it match the white crown molding, but be a different finish?

Yes, crown satin finish; ceiling flat. Walls flat. Good luck!
