Paint Design Dilemma Kitchens

Very old painted wallpaper

House was built in 1939. Wall paper was hung prior to 1960 And then someone Painted over the wallpaper. * probably my great grandpa* Most likely it was last painted in the early 60’s maybe it was the early 70’s. We’d originally planned to just hire painters to repaint everything to avoid what is probably lead paint. Now what? Two rooms the wallpaper is in good shape. You can see the seams but it’s held up well. One room it’s looking rough. Any ideas? do l just call a contractor and hope they can take it all down and fix it? We do not have small children.

Pay the money now and have the wallpaper removed otherwise you will regret it down the line

Painting will not hide the imperfections of the seams. Best to remove now vs wishing you had. You can test for lead paint http://makelyhome.com/lead-paint-testing/

A good professional painter will know how to minimize the visibility of the seams if you decide to paint over the wallpaper. I said minimize. Some seams may still show. Removal of painted wallpaper from plaster walls will be difficult. Good luck!

You can have the wallpaper skim coated with a thin layer of plaster. Pros can do a quick, nice looking job.
