Have you known other gardeners who grow raspberries in containers? I have not heard of that, and the growth habit of raspberries (spreading roots and winter dormancy) doesn’t seem like it would lend itself to container life. If you live where the winters are cold, I would wonder if plants in containers would suffer from the drastic temperature fluctuations. Give the rate of growth raspberries show in the ground, I would think one plant per container is more than enough, if you are successful. I will be interested to hear from others.

I'd agree that most raspberry plants are not good candidates for growing in a container. They propagate by underground runners and these runners will produce shoots that will provide berries in subsequent seasons. Growing in a container will prohibit that shoot development.

There is a variety that has been bred specifically for container culture - Raspberry Shortcake. These are a self-contained shrubby, dwarf variety that produces excellent full size berries. But even these will exceed the confines of a container eventually and will need to be thinned out or divided. My two plants are in 20G pots and this year will need attention as they are overly congested and berry production has fallen off.
