kitchen layout HELP!

I’m thinking about building a new home and the builder is willing to tweak the floor plan to meet my needs.
I want a large island. Check.
I want an open floor plan. Check.
I want a big pantry. Check.
I want a bar area. No Check.

I don’t think I want anything IN the island.

And I thought I wanted more space to the left and right of the cooktop because in my current home I have 28” to the right of the cooktop and a sink with no useable counter space to the left. And it sucks.

The original layout had frig to the left of cooktop and cooktop was centered in the remaining space and in wall oven/microwave is where frig is on this revised plan.

Question 1: is this layout workable?
Question 2: if I go back to original layout, is that enough workspace next to the stove?
Question 3: anyplace to put a bar area? Maybe Where oven/micro is on attached revised plan?
Question 4: is this a stupidly large pantry? I will likely have a small second fridge in there.
Question 5: is there a good third option?

Bump! Please help, the layout doesn’t seem right to me, but I’m no expert. Everyone talks about the kitchen triangle, and this is some kind of weird trapezoid! 😆

I'm sorry I'm not a pro at this but I would definitely not want the fridge back in the corner. You will have people walking though the kitchen all the time for a drink or snack, ect. If this was my layout to work with I would probably switch the oven and fridge. But I'm sure some one more knowledgeable can advise.

just a thought on the powder room right at the front door. I have one there, it’s weird. if someone has to ´go’ just before leaving, everyone else is standing there waiting. Maybe move to the mudroom?

Powder room is definitely NOT staying this way. I have an idea, but it really depends first on what I do with pantry and kitchen layout. But thanks for the observation

Yes, the pantry is too big. Look at all of the floor space! Try not having the pantry entrance split the “L”. Then, on your “L”, you need the order of appliances to be frig, dishwasher, sink, cooktop, ovens, if you don’t want a prep sink in the island.

so what is a good square footage for a pantry?

A pantry needs about 3 feet for walk space. Any more is wasted. So if you want 12” shelves on each side, the total width is 5 feet. If shelving is only on one side as in your picture, then a 4’ pantry works. In any configuration, maximize linear shelving space and minimize walking space.
