Skywriter is listed on page 85 of Naylor Creek's 2020 Hosta Catalog. I don't know if they are open and actively accepting orders though. I'd like that hosta too. If you get one, please post your source.

I bought one from Bob Solberg (Green Hills) at the 2019 National convention. No idea if he has them this year, and even if he did, all the on line places seem to be sold out of everything. It was a hard one to find - Naylor's was the only place that listed it, and they've had a couple tough years personally.

Good luck, I ordered it the year it came out. Never showed up. It came the next year, but barely survived the winter. It is now on life support. I think I'll wait until I can get one a little bigger. (Who am I kidding. I'll order it as soon as I see it available again).

I've been on the Naylor Creek web site a couple of times, but they were shut down, just temporarily according to the site. I sure hope so. They sell and send beautiful hostas. I've gotten quite a few from them through the years I've always been very happy with my purchases.

Sally (CI), I haven't ordered from the Boys (I suppose its only one boy now) for years but when I did I emailed them and told them what I was looking for and got very good service that way. For example, I was warned about small size on one of the plants I wanted so I waited until the next spring and bought a nicer plant. You might try that here. I have not had good luck with ultra small or TC starts in my garden - they die over winter at a very high rate. Plants left at this time of year can be small, leftovers.

Naylor Creek sold out of Skywriter in January, I just missed getting the last one. I suggest you keep an eye out for their next catalog and purchase very early!

@dhaven, how many buds/shoots do you get when you buy a plant from Naylor Creek?

My order this year was all singles, but with excellent root systems. Unless otherwise stated, you will be buying a single division from many hosta nurseries. I was also buying more uncommon hostas that have not been readily available in previous years.

Naylor Creek is noteworthy for being very much aware of and concerned with HVX, they are scrupulous with their testing as well as the growing and processing of plants. Many of their hostas are grown in pots.

I agree, they are excellent to order from. When I ordered from them a few years ago, they had 2 and 3 plants of each hosta. That may have changed now, but yes, they had amazing roots systems and large plants. My last order was 2016 Dancing Queen, Dawn's Early Light and Fire Island. They have all flourished.

My bad. I checked the 2019 list of what-I-bought-from-who, and Skywriter came from In the Country. It was something special they had for the convention, not part of their regular stock. Despite being frozen this April, it's grown well. Still not impressive, but on the way there.

Bob Solberg was where I got Gabriel's Wing, another hosta I hunted for a couple years.

For Naylors you gotta know it is not field grown hosta, so you will not get a division of mature plant. That said Gary and late Jack send sizable hostas and because they have their own TC lab/ which is rarity now I hear/ they have tons of new introductions that no one has. As well as new ones coming from Europe as Gary has good relationship with Marko Fransen who regularly visits him in US. Lot of my hosta came from Naylors.

I have 2 Skywriters, one I ordered and one I got as a gift when another hosta I ordered was not the size Gary though should be. They both growing very well, one I placed in more sun has burned edges.
