That's weird Sherry . Is it getting lots of water /sun (looks to be in full sun ) Don;t know what cultivar this is but I would write to Lambertson and ask if this is normal for this plant. He grew it and marketed it , he should know .

It gets sun all day, has been watered during the dry spell.

It’s Martian Moons. The fan is big and healthy. I have never had a daylily do this. Thanks, Debra, I will leave it be. After I snapped the first bud I opened it up, I saw no insect damage or anything suspicious. No cool nights here, it’s been hot and humid

With our weird weather this year, we have seen more do this. Some open fine and others don't. Stoke the Fire regularly starts opening the day before and looks fine the next. Maybe later in the seaon it will open better.

I'd be curious to see what the bloom looks like )). It may not open all the way. But yes, I'd keep it too, to maybe multiply more.

Sherry - Empire of Desire is one that takes multiple days to open. When Mantis saw this at the hybridizer's farm, he thought the blooms were having trouble opening. They weren't. They just behaved differently than most daylily blooms. Kindred Jewel is a new one that takes three days to open. Even a new one I got from Curt Hanson, Click Bait, does this.

Just wait for it. Eventually, it should open. some Lambertson's do really well here (Bid Talk, Purple Honey Creeper) some don't . the ones that do well, really do well.

Well...... here it is on day four. The bloom is at least 6”, the color looks muddy to me and it’s splotchy. I have a lot of buds to open so I will watch it for awhile. All I can say is it better improve.

I’ve been growing daylilies since 1993 and never had one behave like this. I do have other daylilies with buds that look like this one but don’t behave like this one..........

I have several that do this: Beauty In Motion, Malcolm David Brooker Sr., Guy Meadows, Lucky Debut, Our Friend Olin (these are the ones that come to mind) and they take several days to open. They tend to be the real ruffled ones.

Sherry - I don't think the bloom looks that bad. You have to give it some time. Maybe by the third or fourth bloom it will be gorgeous.
