We really like this little known daylily. It is Second Horizon.

Overnight Flight is another Norris intro. It does very well here and is also giving us some nice seedlings.

TrueNorth Eye in the Sky seems to like our conditions.

Seedling Queen today is Norris seedling X Crimson Stories. Several years ago, we were at Richard Norris's garden and I admired a seedling that was to be composted. He sold the clump to me and I have been using it a lot (it's a good seed setter). We were happy to see this one bloom this morning. It's a two year old seedling, but we believe this is its first bloom. It's a large flower with a good scape.

Of the registered ones, I really love Sam Abell because it's such a favorite here. I notice you always spell Abel with just one l. - even on your intro registration. The AHS registration lists it as Abell with two L's. I love the looks of Untangle My Emotions and Catching Fire too. The seedling queen is absolutely gorgeous. I love everything about it - the colors, the double edge, and the twinkle eye! Great job on that one! I hope it will multiply well for you.

Debra, I have a real mental block when it comes to Sam Abell. I never can remember if it has one L or two. Most of the time, I have to look it up. When I'm in a hurry, I don't. I just fixed it on the website. I think I registered the parentage the correct way.

I think it may be that there was a local politician that spelled it with one L.

Unusual for me to like me, Nancy to like one with with a yellow ruffled edge, but this one, Terrorsaur, really appeals to me. I quite like Untangle My Emotions, Second Horizon is a pretty one, and the Queen seedling is all of that. Very pretty.

Hey, the comment section is back down at the bottom of the posts. Hooray!. I was getting confused..........Speaking of confused the name of Una De Gato has my High School Spanish screaming. Shouldn't it be unO de gato not unA? Also what does "one of cat" mean? Maybe it's lost in translation (or my high school spanish has embarrassed me once again)............Terrorsaur really has the teeth thing going on. A good name for that one......Catching Fire and Overnight Flight look similar and I also like True North Eye in The Sky for it's deep mauve edge and eye.............Maryl

Great group! Beautiful seedling queen and Sam Abell is my other favorite. SA hasn't started blooming here yet this year, the season is just getting started. I'd like to see Second Horizon in person, I know it's a Holmes and I've come it across it on some sale lists in the past.

Maryl, the translation for Una de gato is cat's claw. I don't know Spanish, but that's what the hybridizer said. I believe the issue is the n in una should have the little wavy mark over it (I don't know it's name but I call it an eyebrow). Anyway, that's what google translator said.

Thank you Nan. The little mark over the N (called a Tilde if my memory serves again) makes a difference probably. I would never have guessed "cat's claw". No "Sopa" for me as they said on Seinfeld one time..........Maryl

I often wonder about some names on daylilies like Crimson Stories . I am guessing it is one of those plants whose color depends on soil composition . I checked NGA and a number of the images do seem to lean more towards red than your image does . Your's definitely is more of a purple tone.

I find it interesting too that all the images are showing yellow throats . Is this accurate or does it have something to do with what you are taking pictures with ? Each and every one of the blooms above have predominantly yellow throat ( a tiny green base is visible on some ) . Is this a feature you are breeding for ? It caught my eye because most daylilies are green in the throat with the odd one having an orange throat .

Signet, the photo of Crimson Stories by the hybridizer (Lambertson) shows the color similar to mine. I don't know why he named it Crimson Stories since it obviously isn't. Soil might have something to do with the color, but photography can too.

As far as throat color is concerned, we really don't care what color they are. We do work on specific colors, but not for the throat. Sometimes a green throat is nice (I especially like it on red or pink flowers), but we are not picky. I read somewhere that green throats used to be common and hybridizers worked hard to make them yellow or orange. Now green is all the rage again.
