In my opinion, it would depend on the shades of gray. I absolutely love gray and have used it to create dimension with different shades and tones. I think if you are going to go gray on gray, make sure there is an obvious difference in the two colors and add in a bright color as an accent.

oddly, matching grays might not be a great task for a colorblind purchaser. get somebody to double-check your eye.

The most efficient way to ‘match’ greys is to learn in which Hue Family they belong. Not only more saturated & obvious colours but EVERY black/white/grey/near neutral belongs to one of them.

Buy a $60 Vario Color Muse. A small device which measures colour. It’s a bit like taking a smart phone photo & there is a wireless connection to your phone to see the results. It takes seconds.

This plots the surface colour of whatever you are measuring into its Hue Family. No guessing required. So should you discover the grey sofa belongs to the Yellow Hue Family then the easiest method is to find other accessories/paint/textiles belong to the same Hue Family too. Here, Laura had new grey built-in wardrobes fitted in the bedroom.

They were self-coloured grey, but we didn’t know to which Hue Family that grey belonged.

So we used the Muse to measure them.

The wardrobe grey belonged to the Green-Yellow Hue Family at 124.7°GY. She wanted to paint the adjacent walls with a darker grey, so we found two from the same Hue Family neighbourhood.

She chose Manor House Grey.

So being colour-blind should no longer hold you up in making colour choices, if you utilise the objective color measurement technology now readily available. It’s fun to do too!
