If you are an owner and not a renter, add a chandelier over the table. It looks like there is a ceiling fan there now. Fans cool down hot meals too fast.

Cloth placemats and napkins and a centerpiece (pillar candle, decorative bowl, flower vase, etc) would add color

A new light and thow that clock away and get a huge piece of art for that wall. IMO the rug does nothing for the space and I think no rug would be better

OP can you take a pic of your dining area much further out, maybe turn the table and rug around? That way if you have some space you can add a buffet table.

Hi OP just seen your other post and you can squash my question about the pic and table and chairs? What I have to say is I agree with Patricia.

Your photo has a Scandinavian vibe to me. Following are examples of that style art...there are many out there.

I would add a large, square piece of art with some color. Hang it lower so that it relates to the table/chairs (see image). If the budget allows, I'd also do a larger rug that coordinates with the colors in your artwork. Add something green in the center of the table. And I agree with others - a new light fixture would be great!

The dining area feels flat because it is very generic - rug, dining set, giant clock, no chandelier, monotone color, no WOW factor. I think what we are all trying to say is that it could benefit from expressions of your personality and colors and items and art you respond to emotionally. Your idea book has no posted inspiration photos and that might be a good first step.

Only thing I have to add is to consider a mirror or mirror wall. We can’t see what it might reflect so it might be a bad idea. If a mirror would be too overwhelming how about an antique finish, or funky pattern trellis on top of mirror.

A giant clock tells guests to hurry up, eat and get out of here! A piece of landscape art no wider than the length of your table, hung at eye level to a person seated at the table, will give the impression of a window with a view and will add some color.

I love the clock, but I’d paint the wall behind it a dark colour with a dramatic light fixture over the table and brighter cushions, just needs drama
