He might be right. (sorry) it could start looking like a bunch of squares on your wall. You need to find the right way to "balance" the wall out. Not sure how this would look but maybe a mantel between the TV and shelves below and then continue over towards the fireplace.???

I agree abperhaps something circular? You can cut and paint. Your family's hand prints or footprints by having everyone walking across it (different color)

I Agee that a mirror won't work. Consider putting two shelves over the fire place so that when you place a collection of perhaps glass bottle on the top shelve they will be at the same height as the top of the tv. The shelves could be the type sold at ikea that look like they are floating shelves. To make it calm and balanced, consider choosing dark cafine or black as the colour of the shelves

Or dark mantle and prop a great painting on it. Plus a couple of tall urns on the lower ledge to the left of the TV.

Chrissy, I do want a mantel over fireplace and then a mirror over it and some greenery. This is the mirror i want.

What size is the mirror? It should balance out, but not be the same size as, the TV. From the pic it looks like it might work better turned sideways. It is beautiful and I think ornate enough to play off of the simple lines of the TV.

I'm not sure how well it will work with the stone though. Two different looks going on - might be a bit of a clash.

I know what you mean. What about a large framed photo (maybe a close up of a flower or something very simple)? It would be a fairly low price point, and you could change the photo from time to time.

I think a semi-beefy floating mantel and lean a couple pieces of fab art on the mantel. Layered.

I don't know why this one came to mind. I think it must be because the nature theme would work well with the stone. Might not be your taste at all though.

I think that while the mirror is beautiful and it is very strong, it will compete for attention and in doing so will create tension on your wall and in your room. I agree that a picture or group of pictures will work. You might choose 1large image on the mantle or frame 3 or four in simple black frames , keeping the distance between the pictures small.
If you have not found a picture that you do not want to look at every day, you have not found art you love. A piece of art does not have to be expensive. I grew up in a home that had money struggles and my mom would find images that she loved in magazines and cut them out and frame them. If you are patient , you might take the time to explore your and your husband's taste in art. If there were any black in the images, you might like the overall look... But good taste in art is not necessarily matching the image to your couch......it is partially about what it makes you feel like. You can also check out themes on online image stores that sell image files. If you find some you love, you can have them printed on canvas. Perhaps you can find a good place for your mirror....at the end of a hallway?
