Enlarging a basement window - Do I need a Header?

Hi all, I just purchased a new home and will be embarking on finishing the basement myself. One part of that project is enlarging the window to satisfy egress requirements & bring more light into the room. The foundation is 8" poured concrete and I'll be hiring someone to do the cutting (I know my limits.) The current window goes right up to the sill plate. The floor joists are running parallel to this wall.

The internal ceiling height is 92"

I'm looking to install a 48"x30" awning window 40" off the floor, which leaves me about 4" to the sill plate.

My question is related to headers. Do I need to add a header? If so, would 3 2x6's do the trick? I'm wondering if I need anything because the window opening is already there. I'm just widening it a bit.
