Far North Gardening in Canada Daylilies

opening tricks for thick textured tetraploids?

Hi,

I have a lovely Moonlit Caress daylily and I'm in zone 4B. It struggles to open fully with each bloom. Usually I pry the sepals and fold them back to get it to look open. It gets sun, but I'm wondering if more sun would help with this. Anyone have any suggestions.

I grew it here in my warm climate and never had problems with it opening. If you have a place where it would get more hours of sun, and especially morning sun, that would help with its opening. The photo you show looks pretty good. Only one petal hasn't opened fully. In the north, many daylilies with edges have trouble opening properly. It's possible you will always have trouble with it.
