Best I can do, had to get in really close to the branch to try to photograph what's going on (My camera has a lot of trouble focusing too close in). You can see that there are on average two branches growing out of each node, but only on this branch. This shows two different sides. I have never seen this phenomenon before, but know that when I've thinned branches on my bonsai trees I usually get two more branches for my trouble. Don't know if anyone else has seen this before, so I thought a discussion about it might be helpful.

That is normal. my Meiwa tree does the same.

I'm aware that it's likely normal, my nagami has a few branches where two or three come from the same node. However this particular node is extremely dense with crossing branches. So I guess my question is, when they're fairly dense like this does anyone thin them out, or is leaving them alone to sort themselves out the best course of action (this is more my thoughts but I was curious)? I know there's different schools of thoughts on thinning branches versus just leaving the tree alone.
