It resembles Chocolate Mint. Do the leaves smell like licorice when crushed?

It definitely has a strong scent to it, I'm not at home right now but I'll check when I get home

tsugajunkie, I think you are right.I just googled "Opal basil" and clicked imgaes and it looks just like it.

The scent should confirm if it’s basil. If it is, it looks more like Purple Ruffles than Opal to me. If it doesn’t smell of basil then my guess is Purple Perilla, especially since the heavens appear to be toothed as far as I can see.

II dont think its basil because basil doesnt have this many points on the leafs. I posted on a facebook group and people are saying its Shiso. Heres another photo

I finally got a hold of the woman who gave me these plants last summer. She got it from her sister who said the plants was sold to her as coleus, crazy. She said she just uses it for landscape color and was surprised when i told her it was a japanese herb

@thrills, it did sprout in alot of areas that I didnt want it to grow back in may. I pulled alot and threw it in the compost.

@ floral_uk what do you mean by heavens? tooth??? I am assuming you are talking about the points on the leaf?

Heavens is a silly autocorrect typo. I meant leaves. Toothed refers to the edges of the leaves. It means jagged.

Its starting to flower and figured I would get another picture, I still think its perilla? The small flowers are pink.
