We both grow Mighty Chestnut, your photos of it are much better than mine, L can’t get the color right. Two more nice toothy seedlings, a bonus they are late bloomers.

I like the colors on the second seedling (Ruffled Strawberry Parfait X (Horns X Sea of Cinders) . America Discovers Columbus is a pretty and it looks to have several buds yet to open. What do you consider late in your growing zone?

America Discovers Columbus is really pretty. It reminds me of English Lavender. Raggedy Man looks like a good late. I love the Empire of Dusk and Dawn seedling! Of the last two toothy seedlings, I prefer the first one.

Of your two seedlings, I favor the first one with more yellow in it. Very nice form as well as a color that shows to be a wide yellow throat extending out to a pale pink overlay on the edge of the petals...........I really don't care for eyed daylilies in my garden. I like them in other peoples, just not mine for some reason. HOwever I may eventually have to try Mighty Chestnut. Your pictures of it have always intrigued me. That smokey orange color later in the season is so enticing..........American Discovers Columbus is beautiful. Will have to check it out...............Maryl

I really like Heavely Lover's Lane. Al three seedelings are very pretty, I thend to favor the last one.

Julia, I find it hard to pin down blooming times. They just seem to be all over the place. For example, Lava Flow in our garden blooms early, often first tied with Buddy's Betsy and just after Stella (usually, but it wasn't the first this year) but it's registered as a early mid.

Most of the varieties we have that are late start blooming in late July--beginning of August. (Our peak is maybe just before July 4.) They seem to be blooming earlier than normal this season.

I think bloom season is the hardest statistic to nail down for registration. It seems to be so variable because of all the factors that can influence it.

Years ago I came across a list of daylilies to used as markers for the various seasons. I didn't save the list and can't find it now, but I do remember two of them. Stella De Oro was early early season and Sandra Elizabeth was very late. We don't grow Stella, but it's hard to miss them around town. We grow Sandra Elizabeth and it hasn't starting flowering for us yet this year.

It's odd but many southern-bred daylilies that are registered as late do not bloom late here. An example of that is Last Snowflake and Geneva Purple Haze. They seem like they are mid season here.

I guess bloom season is just like a lot of other factors, such as bud count and scape height. It has a lot to do with the growers microclimate.

So many posts that I missed this one! I do like Mighty Chestnut. And that photo of America Discovers Columbus is beautiful. I really like the Overnight Flight seedling but the other seedlings are nice too!!
