Thanks. I just checked them out. They advertise them as “work tables.” I need an eating table for the breakfast nook. But thanks for thinking of that.

The height is more your delineating factor. They have "Harvest" tables and all kinds of decorative options for the styling, so hopefully you saw the dozens of options available. In your original post, you said you meant to use this table as a work surface, so I'm confused now that you say you don't want a work surface. Here are a couple of examples from the John Boos website. These come in various dimensions, and there are many other table styles as well:

John Boos isn't the only manufacturer of tables like this. You might start by checking Nebraska Furniture Mart, Kitchen Source, or Butcher Block, all online, for other brands that make these little kitchen tables.

I found this on Pottery Barn's website... I actually like that it has a drop leaf so that it's a bit more versatile. https://www.potterybarn.com/products/shayne-kitchen-table/?pkey=capt-dining-room&isx=0.0.1621

I found these on Wayfair, but not sure if this is what you want: https://www.wayfair.com/filters/furniture/sb5/kitchen-dining-tables-c46129-a1278~2250-a1278~2253-a131799~442510-p86232~0~36-p86233~0~24.html

24x36 might be tough to find, but I wonder if you know anyone who builds furniture if it might be worth having it custom made. Or maybe on Etsy?

Thanks Megs. I've been wondering whether a drop leaf would work. That PB is too large but good food for thought. I like some of those ones on Wayfair. It would be helpful to see things in person or else have a way to return that doesn't incur a fee. (i.e. return to a local store, if needed). Yeah, I'm finding 24x36 is hard to find. I've been checking craigslist for a temporary table. There had been one that was 30" square. I felt kind of meh on it so by the time I responded, someone was lined up to pick it up. Thanks for your food for thought.

Silverlined--sorry for the confusion. By work surface, I meant I want to be able to sit there with my laptop and papers, and be able to spread out (not a cooking work surface). Sorry for the confusion.

Found this one at West Elm https://www.westelm.com/products/jules-drop-leaf-dining-table-h3167/?pkey=cdining-tables&isx=0.0.8877
