Hoya Dapple Grey?

I received a small rooted vine of a Hoya that I was told is a ‘Dapple Grey’ it’s only got one leaf at the moment so my question is more about the cv itself. When I googled it I didn’t get much information. Is it a real variation or people trying to make their plants more impressive sounding? I received it in a trade and I don’t have high hopes for it being something really cool, I’m just curious and trying to get more information on it. Thanks in advance!

I've never heard of it, maybe it's new. Where did you get it pls? EBay seems to have lots of 'creative namers'. Is that supposed to be a variety of Pubicalyx?

Never mind the one leaf, does it have any nodes?

Folks Here at Hoya forum can likely suggest to you real, REPUTABLE sellers for the future.

ETA: pls look further for yourself CasualS, a quick search found me mentions on Amazon, EBay & Etsy, some says it's a form of H Carnosa, others say it's a form of H Pubicalyx as I asked.

IMO, I don't believe we at Hoya forum would regard any of those 3 as reputable when it comes to proper Hoya names. Just so you know.

Thanks Karen! It does have nodes as well as roots. I’m not sure if it’s supposed to be a carnosa or a publicalyx since google gives results for both like you said. All I know was it was called ‘Hoya Dapple Grey’. I received it from a local trade so I have no idea where it came from and I have low expectations of it being something truly new or unique. I live in Newfoundland, Canada where getting anything out of the ordinary is a real chore.

I would imagine I did a similar google search as yours and came up with the same lack of info, that’s why I figured I would ask and see if anyone here had any more info or knowledge. Even someone who had heard of it before or knew if it was even real.

I have a reputable seller that I love but this plant didn’t come from him. But if Im looking for something in the future that he can’t get or I need another seller I’ll definitely ask around here and do research first!

Pls show us a pic of what you got, tho' it may be tough to tell from one leaf. But H Carnosa & H Pubicalyx have pretty different looking leaves as a rule, so pls try to post it for us to see.

My suspicion is that it’s a reverted carnosa Krimson Queen or something but as you said, it’s difficult since it only has one leaf

Keep in mind that many of the hoya names are based on the bloom not necessarily the foliage. I did find some references to "dapple gray". It may be a hybrid carnosa.

Bob Smoley is a reputable hoya seller and they list it on their site.

So many hoyas, so little time! :-)

Thx for the pic CS, that looks like a Carnosa leaf to me, not a Pubicalyx leaf, wrong shape. Your suspicion seems reasonable to me.

Is that a peduncle I see, at the node or am I imagining it? Leaf looks healthy, so pls keep doing same as you are. Excited for ya!!!

Thanks Karen! I originally assumed it was a stem where a leaf cracked off but on closer inspection, I think you’re right and it is a peduncle! Even more exciting!!
