WooHoo! More progress.

I had a journey back to my single days when I had to do everything for myself. DH is working and I needed some instant gratification. So I moved all the furniture, cleaned the front windows (scope creep), put down a 9x12 rug & pad and put everything back - by myself! If I'm not mistaken, I believe I should have lost 25lbs as a result of my hard work. Okay, maybe not.

In any case, here's where we are! The rug pad needs to be trimmed and we still need to replace the painting with the mirror, but I'm making progress and thrilled with the results!

What an absolutely gorgeous space! I covet your fireplace, you know. Do I understand you to say you're replacing the painting above the fireplace? Omg, I think it's perfection there. You are welcome to send it to me though ... y'know, if you just can't find another spot for it. ;-D

Ida - funny story about that painting. It was my grandmothers and she always said it was going to me when she passed. When I was little, I was scared to death of it because.....her eyes followed me everywhere! So when Grandmother would tell me it was mine I'd freak out a little inside.

Your room is very warm and welcoming. I love the windows and fireplace! Step on the scale again. :)

Well done. Love those lamps! I agree that the painting does have a Children Of The Corn vibe to it. A mirror will be much better

Great room! Funny, I was thinking the rug and the painting complement each other so well. So here‘s another vote for keeping the painting.

maddie, I know what you mean. Now I have to actually engage in conversation with DH about my little redecorating projects. Because he’s watching me.

I like the room - and the painting above the fireplace. Personally, I would keep it there.

Do you ever use the fireplace?

I would have guessed that the rug is bigger than 9x12.

I don't think I've ever lost weight doing housework - partly because the kitchen is right there.

Thanks for all the nice complements. It means a lot coming from this bunch. Frankly, the past year (or three) has been a bit of a b-femaledog-h and you all know how much a little decorating can lift the spirits.

Only the rug, some gifted accessories and lamps are new to us. The lamps came from more gifted items I sold on ebay. The giver - who's RIP MIL's apartment provided the gifts and inspiration - know's how thankful I am to her and her family.

And the rug was a clearance item from HD Buttercup's store closure sale in OC. BTW - for locals, that store closure is the sale that will never end. I have forbidden myself to go back in there.

Here's the mirror. It's also from my grandmother, 1940's wood/gilt.

Here's a view of the other side of the room (and with all the dog covers on the furniture). That artwork is from my husband's cousin and stays. The painting will probably move to the dining room, so it won't be forgotten.

The fireplace is fake. We don't even have a chimney. The inside of it is plaster, so we sometimes burn candles since there is a vent for the original gas heater.

The room is big for a basic 1929 house that was probably about 900 sq ft when first built, but it's a still small house at 1,500 sq ft. Hence the rug probably looks bigger than it is.

Most everything in there has a story - many around what crazy antics I embarked upon to find good things at big discounts. It's my super-power. And the coffee/side tables are the only thing DH was able to bring into the marriage, so we will always work around them.

Finally, I'd give anything but my health to host a party right now!

Your room looks terrific. I really like the painting over the fireplace as it brings the red up to eye level. Good luck trimming your rug pad. The only thing I found that would cut through the felted wool was my kitchen shears which were then ruined. My heavy duty box cutter was useless.

^that's DH's job! If we can't find some studs in the fireplace, then the painting will stay.

I cannot help noticing how lovely the sconces are. Lovely room.

“Most everything in there has a story..” And the whole room reflects that. All those fancy words fit it to a tee: curated, collected, bespoke...the whole lot! I can say... ‘cause now I know you a little... It also fits you to a tee. It’s the sort of space that draws me in. I like it so very much!!! Maybe? the painting is too small for the fireplace?, dunno, but I really think it needs to be in that room, it goes perfectly. Happy you shared with us!

happy - thanks! I believe they are original to the house. we also have a different sconce in the hall, but all the other lighting is new/old installed by us.

Marti - thanks! The painting is a little small and I don't think I have wall space for it elsewhere, but I'll look around. I do love it. A friend of my grandmother's painted it of some random girl during an art class. Perhaps I'll write up a story introducing each of my furnitures.....food for thought.

It all came together beautifully - the floor lamps, the art, the rug - I really like the rug, although I have to admit I also like how it picks up the red in your (soon to be re-located) painting. At first I thought the rug had a fringe until you mentioned trimming the pad. You did such a great job of laying the rug that even the pad is symmetrical.

Is that a drop leaf desk in the corner of the second photo? I've never seen one like that before and it sits in that corner perfectly. I think it's wonderful that your pieces all have a story to tell.

    1929Spanish-GW thanked maire_cate

It is a drop leaf desk. It’s a hand-me-down from my mom who got it from a second hand store sometime in the 70’s/80’s.

And luckily we took the dogs to the groomer, because the rug is now Cricket-approved.

Either you’re a dog person or you aren’t.

Beautiful; that's a lot of solo moving! I have lots of experience with that, too, but now it hurts too much to work that hard and the furniture is where it's going to stay forever.

Oh, and the windows are so sparkly clean! ;-)

@Sueb20 today totally got away from me. Here are my boxes. Some were my grandparents and some I’ve collected through the years. They are a perfect fit on the mantel.
