Guest toilet....and sink.

Gotta wonder how anyone could answer that. No location within the house, no idea if you refer to a hallway bath.......or anything else. It's first floor, it's second floor, a remodel, or a new build.. We have NO clue, as you have not provided enough information to answer your question.

A guest, if this is your question, doesn't need anything beyond a small reach in closet...................they do need a bathroom. Preferably that bath is shared with NOBODY.

A guest toilet is universally known as a single toilet and wash hand basin away from bedrooms and main bathroom used by guests - so that they don't use the main bathroom of the house. Perhaps you misunderstood this as a guest en-suite which is attached to a guest bedroom. Naturally, a guest would not require a walk-in closet.

My question was directed at people's preferences to having a separate toilet to be used by guests as opposed to the benefit of additional cupboard space, namely a walk-in closet (usually done for a main bedroom) as stated in my title.

The level of the house and whether it is a new build or remodel is irrelevant to the question of whether people prefer the benefit of a walk-in closet or the benefit of having a separate toilet for guests to use.

It really comes down to the personal decision. If your cupboard space is so inadequate than it’s a no brainer. You need storage.

If you can get away with the storage you have or make use of other storage idea, then the bathroom.

Personally, if you have two people living in a space, I would always prefer to have that extra bathroom.

A walk-in closet doesn't necessarily mean more storage space. A reach in closet that is 2x8 = 16 sq ft can be much more efficient and provides 8 ft of clothing storage. A walk-in closet that is the same square footage 4x4 =16sq ft holds half that and is very tight to even call it a walk in as you only have 2ft width of walking space and 4 ft of clothes storage. So a reach in closet with a powder room would be my vote as I'm assuming it will provide more clothes storage and not waste square feet with walking space.

A closet for what bedroom, as part of what floor, as part of how many other baths and and and. Who KNOWS? You get the answers you deserve.

Some of this appears to be lost in translation with regional norms on what things are called. No need for anyone to get bent out of shape about it. Not the OP or those who reply.

In my opinion more information is needed. As a guest, if there is space, I think having an en-suite bath is lovely. However, it isn’t always realistic in many homes. Our guest bath is beside our guest room and also the bath for the rec room.

I think having a powder room, wash basin and toilet, accessible for day to day use on the main floor is more of a priority than a private suite for guests.

No, it’s not. Perhaps you mean powder room or half-bath or guest bathroom. Who can tell. If you’re looking for advice on any renovation questions—whether on this forum, or in real life from contractors and designers—you’ll have to gain some humility, and lose some smugness.

I'd go for the extra 1/2 bathroom.
