Ive been told that if I want to replace the tile at any point with LVP I should a) buy enough of the same product so the lot and coloring matches or b) just do it all at once. Is this true?

This is absolutely true. You will never find the matching LVP again. Well, maybe not quite never. But almost never.

You did not ask this, but someone (might as well be me) will volunteer that:

1. Gray is out

2. Gray LVP won't go with your kitchen

Famous last words....I can do LVT myself, hence the overblown popularity of this cheap plastic floor of which 99% is made in Communist China. Classic example of one bad decision leads to another. Going the cheap route with LVP (#chinaSTRONG) and then cheaper still doing it yourself. Stick to carpet, hardwood or tile.

You have some decisions to make:

1. When are you thinking of replacing the kitchen flooring?

2. When are you thinking of refinishing the kitchen itself?

3. Are you OK with two different floors for the two different spaces?

Is your plan to have the same floor throughout the entire house? What are your 7 year renovation plans? What is your plan for staying in the house?

Stay away from LVP lol....it offers nothing for resale value. Maybe just lay tile throughout? I always preferred the same continuous floor all throughout, you can do area rugs for the warmth

Why not do beautiful, rich dark brown real wood flooring with the same finish as your cabinets since it's open space? Then put area carpets down in blues and dark walnut. Gray/LPV? Just say no. You won't get visual flow and as mentioned above the stuff looks cheap.

Palette for area rug that would go with your current furnishings, wall color, dark walnut cabinets seen in living room background. Install dark walnut flooring.
