No- I’m actually Trying to get away from browns and gold tones- liked the look of the light tan linen fabric for the chairs. Would you recommend light greys instead?

How about a white wash on the brick fireplace to lighten it up?

Also white cell shades at the windows.

Add white lamps/lampshades or accent color lamps with white lamp shades.

Take a look at leather recliners and in possibly a color that is bright and fun for the room, and use that as a take off for accent colors.....deep turquoise or teal, cinnamon color leather to blend in with the walls, rich green leather, and maybe a lighter color wood/vinyl floor with bright area rug on floor....also look at bright paneled family rooms in bright colors on Houzz to see what you like and dislike, so you have fewer doubts....and get inspired; looking will give you ideas and courage and a full discussion when you are about to spend a lot of money.

Start with a flooring change to hardwood, and a nice big light area rug : ) Nobody can help with a furniture arrangement, unless you draw the room and provide ALL dimensions, walls, window, entry, etc

Are the faux plants favorites or are you ready for a change? How about the other small decor items?

Try removing the third pillows from the chairs. The chairs will look more inviting if you can sit on them without moving the pillows off.

Ordering a yard of the new fabric you are considering will give you a better idea if you like the color. Often a bright new fabric looks better if it contrasts with the floor and other furniture.

A new recliner may be something to consider, too.
