I have a dull GE Ceramic cooktop. Weiman cooktop clean, red non-scratch pads, and new razor blades don't fix it. Has anyone tried either (a) the kind of rubbing compounds they use on boat gelcoat, e.g. Shure, which is basically a form of liquid sandpaper but with a light grit - less aggressive even than fine sandpaper; or (b) car polish made for fixing car paint scratches. The dullness on the ceramic looks superficially like the dullness of oxidized gelcoat on the size of a boat. But the way that buffing compound works is that it's taking off an extremely thin layer of the gelcoat. Assuming, for the moment, that you can remove a thin layer of ceramic cooktop, is there any kind of a coating or other functional element near the surface that would be damaged by that?
