If you’re up for a little chrysanthemum work, I think cascading mums in the bicycle would look fantastic in the Fall. They are a bit of a PITA to grow. I did it once, and only once, in a flower box. A friend was coaching me, pre-internet days. I had to cover the mums with black plastic for x hours per day and do some sort of pruning that I cannot remember now. On second thought, buy something that cascades by its nature.

For the bicycle planter frame, can you get sheets of coconut coir / fiber to line it? I'd try using one piece to cover the bottom and another piece to wrap around the sides. Or... I'd custom weave a basket to fit that frame. :)

I like the idea of coconut coir for the bike, or sphagnum moss would look nice too if you can work it inside of the frame. I would want to stick a fake baguette in there with the flowers lol.

Nice haul! I agree with coir or sphagnum moss for the bike, which is super cute. Trailing ivy and fall flowers would be lovely.

Are the blue pots plastic? I think it gets too hot here for plastic, as I noticed this year that a few of my plastic potted plants seemed to be cooking, so I transplanted them to pottery. But I do like that blue color, and think they'd be so pretty with yellow flowers of some sort.

You probably have a lot more growing season where you are, but I just planted cilantro in a big pot last night. :) Is that a small window box? I've had great luck growing things like parsley, lettuces, and onions in window boxes! If you need to put the pots where there's no sun, they'd look great with impatiens or hostas in them. :)

Thanks, everyone. The planters are plastic. We really don't have much of an issue with the vegetables in the plastic containers on the deck. But it stays pretty warm here for awhile. We barely had a winter this past year.

Yes, I got those window boxes, too. Those aren't in that great of shape, so they might be usable for some herbs.

The coir seems like a good idea for the basket!

That bike is so cute. I agree the coir liner will work well. You should have different fall flowers to choose from at a nursery. I would fill it with pansies in the fall. It will look great with red geraniums and an ivy for summer.

Great haul for $20! Especially like the bicycle frame. All of the ideas above are very good. I love those lightweight pots like the blue ones. I agree something yellow would be pretty. It’s almost mum season and I was thinking about those earlier this morning. I’m just so ready for cooler nights!

just had another thought for the blue pots. Next year for the summer holidays they would be pretty with red geraniums, white bacopa or similar white trailing flower, maybe million bells petunia. Stick a small American flag in there and it would be a very pretty red, white and blue display.

I really like the bicycle planter and would highly recommend a trailing coleus. I find they do really well in summers down south and can easily be trimmed if they get a little long. I planted this one in a mixed pot and haven’t touched it. The leaves are really small. I did get it potted a bit later than usual because of the pandemic.

I would love something pink in those blue pots. I have some pretty pink pentas that would look great and they also do well in the south.

This is a large pot but you could do one plant.

Outside, I have that wedding veil coleus in my front planter boxes, and darn, that is gorgeous. I never had that before this year.
