multi clad cookware with sealed rim??

last modified: 6 years ago

Are there any multi clad cookware besides demeyere silver7 or prolines that have sealed rims and no exposed aluminum etc? I want to be able to put my pots and pans in the DW and not worry about the aluminum eroding etc.

I say no demeyere silver7 etc because they are too heavy. I don’t think any of the intense, industry 5 etc lines have sealed rims. Any and all viable options welcomed that you guys know of with solid performance and sealed rims on all items. Not too worried about price.

Thanks.

Tramontina is a budget option much liked by both Cook’s Illustrated and Wirecutter, but I have no idea how much they weigh by comparison. Everything is so heavy nowadays...

I don’t know what you mean by “sealed rims.” I’ve never seen stainless steel cookware that is not dishwasher safe.

    Cristel Casteline $$$$,

    Viking Contemporary

Primo by Spring USA(More than one company makes a line called Primo.)

    Le Creuset stainless steel

I am not sure about the weight.

There are many types of cookware that are guaranteed for life so that might be an option too. If you buy them from a place that services the warranty like Bed, Bath and Beyond, you don’t have to send it in they will give you a new pan on the spot if they still carry it. I think some brands of pans are more subject to that sort of damage. My SIL has a set from Sam’s and it has held up well. No degradation of the aluminum layer. Some pans have the rim covered by the nonstick but that isn’t all that durable.

Emeril pans from 10 years ago likely use aluminum as a spreader, but from the side one sees a copper band.

The thing is, if you want multiclad, it’s going to be heavy. If you want lighter cookware then you don’t want multiple layers. So you’ll need to pick one.

I don’t put my pots and pans in the DW because they take up so much room that it will mean I‘ll have to run 2 loads. Is it that crucial to you to have DW safe cookware?

Seriously, the only cookware you don’t put in the dishwasher is aluminum, non-stick, cast iron, or carbon steel. If you are “clad” you’re good.

The thing about the weight and clad is that I don’t want the weight of demeyere Atlantis or the weight of like cast iron. The other categories of clad (3 ply and 5 ply) are generally good with weight. I just dont want to be wrestling the the heavyweights. :)

DW sage isn’t that crucial. I just want the option without feeling like I am going to damage the pots and pans over time with DW use. we currently out our old cheapo frypans and saucepans in the DW with lids and enjoy that convenience. Would like to continue that with new pots and pans. Was looking at the Demeyere Intense from Costco as our next purchase but at over $800 after taxes etc I just wonder if there are other options even if for a little more money that will give a little more piece of mind and carefree-ness.
