Design Dilemma Storage & Closet

help!!!!ideas please

Bought an existing house.previous owner bumped out the closet into the bedroom for a walk in. Love the closet space but not the look..unfinished plywood on top any suggestions other than removing. We considered bringing to the ceiling but the skylight is in the way. Help!!!

I am a former Texas Master gardener and I could give you a few suggestions. First I would start overhauling the landscape. You can do this in phases since it's a big job and like Rome-- it wasn't built in a day. Trees should frame a home not cover it. So with that in mind, it's time to think about getting rid of some. I took out 6 trees in front of my house when we moved in and it made a dramatics difference. The shrubs, although I am sure it is winter, look pretty scraggly. The average shrub's life is about 10 yrs and after that they start to look bad especially if someone didn't know how to prune or did a bad job of it. I am not sure how you feel about mowing, but the entire front looks like ground cover. If you want to keep it, it needs some clean up. I'd evaluate all the trees and determine which ones are in better health and location and get rid of at least one or more. I'd also put some lattice work or something to conceal the posts that are holding up the deck. In Picture#2-- The space by the garage---I'd remove the shrubs leading up the driveway. They seem to serve no purpose and unless you keep them well pruned, it's just more maintenance. I'd also get rid of the foundation shrubs in Picture #3 because they seem to not fit the space well. I'd replace them with perennials/ bulbs or annuals depending on the light they get.

You could do faux built-ins, or a low tv stand with lots of shelves... I have seen lots of cool ikea hack faux built in solutions. Thanks so much for the ideas. We met with the company doing our roof and it is more work then we thought adding some dimension on to the roof line. We thought we would have to do it before the roof but he said if we added a portico later we would only lose like $100 in shingles so it is no big deal to have it done later. Now the question is paint colors for the siding and shutters with the taupe brick. I always thought a dark brown roof would be the only option but we are waiting for pics of these shutters this guy has done for another house that are a little different and stained black and then we were thinking of a black roof but still don't know what color to get the siding painted. I imagine we would have to paint the wood that is across our front porch the same color as the siding but I am so lost on a color scheme. I would like to change out the front door and pillars to on our porch.

Oh, I'm clear as mud. That's what I meant to say: Can you take down the white post part that's remaining, so instead of two "framed" areas, you have open space? It may or may not be load bearing? From experience at a friend's house, I know that opening it all the way made her very happy. :) Just a thought.

The thing that really makes the closet extension look odd is the angled top. If you could flatten the top it would look a bit better. Use wallboard and paint the whole extension to match the walls. You would still have the nice closet space. The top would need to be dusted anyway, but the weird angle would be gone.

Yes, if you flatten the top of the closet, you can put baskets that are decorative on top but that also hold things you don't use often. Also, it will look less awkward.

The weird angle makes it funny-looking. The first two suggestions above (fix the top of it and extend it along the whole wall) will make it look like it was meant to be there. Painting plywood never looks good. Dry wall should be installed for a cleaner, more professional result.

You have to straighten out the top of the roof first and foremost ..., then apply high gloss paint on top to make cleaning easier and perhaps put some pretty storage cases or a group of basket on top for decoration ..no matter what you put its need dusting regularly so you don't get an allergy when the dust flies when the fan is moving . I would then paint that entire wall a darker color ...then the rest ...even just a few tones darker then the rest ...so the closet doesn't look like the addition / aft thought that is .
If you have room to switch the bed to the other wall ...so that the entrance is free and give you more space to sit ...or for a painting or move the large mirror ......you have to make it your space by trying different things ....but first you have to change the roof and make it a straight line across .
And look at some natural colors to decorate the room for serenity in the bedroom ... Look at HOUZZ for inspiration ....
