Different Baseboards, different rooms

Hey all. I’ve got a split foyer, the top (main) floor has an open kitchen/dining/living room, with 3 bedrooms on the same level. Basically all the living space on 1 level. I’d like to replace our chewed up, 36 layers-of-high-gloss, builders grade baseboards with a 5 1/4” to modernize the living space. Can I do this only in the big open area and down the hall, and leave the shorter, basic baseboards that are in the bedrooms?
I’ve seen trim styles mixed up before, just curious whether it’s the right move or would just look like an unfinished DIY project.

PS there would be no areas where the new, taller base and the older base would be seen together.

Also we have 8’ ceilings so opinions on the 5 1/4” baseboard would be helpful as well.
Thanks!
