NEVER seal a wood counter , wood has an enzyme that kills bacteria and when you sel it it kills that ability. I have wood countersall over in my last house and beside my range in this house all I have ever used is mineral oil when they start looking a bit dry or if I sanded out a stain . I ran a catering biz in this kitchen and it is now 17 yrs old ans still looks like new. You will find it needs oiling usually about 2 x a year a bit more near water. Ikea actually makes a great wood counter product but it needs to cure to be food safe where mineral oil is always safe.

I used the wrong word when I said seal...it's called monocoat natural oil by Rubio. I was told you can apply it once and you do not have to reapply. I thank you for your information!

Suzanne, did you use Rubio monocoat? Looks like everyone really likes how easy is applied and the look after. We are doing butcher block is a desk top and I went the old way ( conditioning, stain, finish), because rubio was not really immediately available.
