Bolero!!

For roses with an old-fashioned form, another vote for Bolero + the David Austin rose Desdemona. For hybrid tea roses, Pope John Paul II. All are fragrant, but in my yard Bolero & PJP are extra fragrant.

Cyndita ... this one is tough, because the only listed sources (ironically) are in Florida. Though, you might try Burlington Rose Nursery.

My other two favorite whites are Snowbird and Mlle. de Sombreuil:

Mlle. de Sombreuil, without a doubt, but only because I don't have Jesse Hildreth yet, lol. Colonial White is a close second (I will NEVER call it Sombreuil, even though that is the official name. The ARS needs to be horsewhipped over that little fiasco). I've always been afraid to try Snowbird, but Jeri's photo reminds me why I'm still tempted.

Oops...Diego, I just saw that you have "limited space". That eliminates Colonial White. It's a big climber. But soooo pretty and healthy.

Yes, I have room for one or two roses in a large flower bed. I like color and have a magnificent Radio Times as the centerpiece. Lots of months to dream about roses.

Rosepetals in Florida sends great roses and they do have Jesse Hildreth, although out of stock at the moment. I had to order from Florida when others on the West Coast don't have it. What can you do?

Bolero is my favorite modern, repeat-blooming rose. Madame Plantier is my favorite once bloomer. Both are exceptionally beautiful and exceptionally fragrant.

'Snowbird' looks marvelous, but as far as I know it can't be found here. I grow mainly old and older roses, and varieties suited to tough conditions. Of rebloomers, 'Mme. Jules Bouche' is lovely, at least if you have a decent specimen (I don't), 'Sombreuil'/'Colonial White' is a wonderful bloom--I'd like to see my plant growing better--and 'Mme. Alfred Carriere' is a great plant, very fragrant rose, and pretty flowers good for cutting. Oh, there are too many to name.

Lamarque - tea or tea noisette, 1830 - re-blooms all season.

I don't have Jessie Hildreth but have been smitten with the photos. I understand this to be a found rose. Could anyone shed light on how big it might get?

Tied: Bolero and Pope John Paul II, none better so far for me.

Thought Polar Express would be a white blooming keeper, but it is disappointing in all respects except for black spot resistance and winter hardiness. Two more years, and if it doesn't shape up....shovel time!

Jesse Hildreth has Photos on HMF photos. There is/was a very large ancient plant in California. Mine here is a medium Tea after about 4 years. It is a wonderful plant.

Pope John Paul II - fragrant and voluptuous

The only two pure white roses I grow are the HT, Crystalline and the Miniflora, Whirlaway. They keep me happy. That's all I ask for in my garden.
