Chitalpa grows here if that's what you want to know. I have a pink one at the entrance to my driveway. Otherwise Trees of Seattle - Second Edition (2006) by Arthur Lee Jacobson lists addresses for multiple examples of often much larger and older examples if you want to see what they turn into.

Young stock sent to independent garden centers here tended to be gawky, develop foliage mildew under retail watering regimes. So I suspect their tenure on the local market was comparatively brief because of them not selling well. But I have never discussed this hypothesis with any involved parties.

Mine was a low forking, shrub shaped specimen already big enough to require a small plastic tub when purchased. After planting out flowering was weak at first but this year it is blooming all over the plant, starting to produce some larger blooms.

There is a large one on my niece's property here on Bainbridge. Planted right on top of the waterfront bulkhead, it almost brushes the water at high tide. And right in the middle of its bloom cycle when I was there last week. Pretty stunning!

btw, this tree is a Great Plants Pick, so well recommended for this area.

It grows well outside PNW too, it might occassionally see a tiny bit of mildew near end of the foliage season, but otherwise sees two or three flowering cycles for me per year, the first being the heaviest.

Thank you all. I have one about 2 feet in a pot and looks pretty good. Bought it as a very small plant and has been in the pot about 4 years. I will go ahead and plant it in September. Sounds like it may survive. Wish I had planted it this spring.

Mine was a one year old cutting, perhaps 8-10 inches, and it grew and flowered first year in ground. They grow fast, I can't imagine one being in a pot for *4* years.

Stiil debating about where to plant my Morning Cloud Chiltapa. Is the shape pleasing enough to plant near the house where it will be seen in winter? We are in the process of making a patio in a hot dry area that has been trying for years to be grass. I am thinking that the Chiltapa might give some dappled shade there for patio sitting. i know some trees are best in a crowd where they can blend in when not at their best. Is this the case for Morning Cloud?

P.S. I would like to get into Seattle to see 1 or 2 that exist but Covid has prevented me from venturing off our island!
