Just want to note that the Miele Ultratabs are highly scented. I have spoken to them about providing scentless and hope others do the same.

So what? Dishes, glasses, pots and pans don't absorb scent. If they did, every one of them would smell like food.

wdccruise -- Some folks can't tolerate scents in their space. If the scent "leaks" out of the dishwasher while in wash mode, it can be miserable for them ( not to mention having to deal with the scent from the box of unused tabs).

Now dishwashers "leak" scent. The world has gone nuts.

Though it wasn't for a Miele dishwasher, I bought the Miele ultra tabs once out of curiosity (I'm a fan of the brand and they had good reviews), and the oversudsing is a serious issue. This was in my last house with average-to-slightly-hard water and a GE Profile dishwasher. I ran it with a full tab and you could hear the machine straining because it was sucking up so much air from the soap suds. It sounded so bad that I was afraid the machine would be damaged. I opened the door and the bottom was all white foam. Cutting them in half helped, and they got the dishes very clean, without any pre-rinsing.

However, I never bought, nor will buy, them again. Considering the high price, the fact that I had to perform labor to make it work properly, and the excellent performance I've gotten with Cascade Complete or Kirkland Signature (without extra work and for far less money), the Miele tabs lost their appeal. I also experienced similar oversudsing issues with Cascade Platinum and the latest version of Finish Quantum, so I stick to the aforementioned Complete or KS.

I get the same excess suds with Cascade Platinum pods (the only kind I've tried). My dishwasher senses the water level per the electrical current draw on the pump motor. Using these pods is the only time I've seen it add more water, in response to the reduced load on the pump because of the excess suds.

Pods and tablets are an overdose in many cases ... particularly for people who essentially wash their dishware before loading.

I've had two Miele dishwashers for 2 years. The Miele certified tech advised me (and showed me how) to cut the Ultra tabs in half. He used a sharp knife but I use kitchen shears. I had been doing this for more than a year with excellent cleaning results. A few months ago, I switched over to Finish Quantum pods to use up my supply and definitely noticed that they were not cleaning dishes as well. Food that the Miele tabs would have taken care of was not removed with the Finish pods. Then my husband bought Cascade Platinum tabs at Costco so I used those for a while. They were better than Finish, but still did not do as good of a job as the Miele tabs (cut in half).

When I compared the prices of the Cascade Platinum tabs from Costco versus the Miele Ultra tabs, cut in half, I save by using the Miele. My loads are always full but I've never needed to use more than a half a tab. And I have never noticed a scent from the tabs.

I got six months of Miele tabs for free when I bought my dishwasher this year and I don't smell anything in the tabs or the DW when I open the door. I alternate between Finish Quantum and the Miele tabs. The Miele tabs leave everything very bright and shiny and there is no scent inside the dishwasher when the cycle is finished. Finish Quantum does very well too..

I bought a pac of Cascade Platinum and used them 5 times, then had to throw them away. They created so much suds, that the dishwasher had to add additional water 3 times during the wash, then it also had to add additional water several times for every rinse. The Dw usually uses 2.7 gallons for a normal cycle, but with the cascade tabs it took close to 5 gallons. Not possible to use them.

I have had my Miele dishwasher for about 5 years. About a year ago I had an issue. My repairman said I needed a new motor to the tune of approximately $900. I then called the Miele help line and the gentleman I spoke to knew exactly how to fix the problem. The dishwasher pods I had been using over the years with the plastic coating was the issue. He had me order a dishwasher cleaning pod from Amazon and after I ran it thru the cycle my dishwasher was good as new! He also told me only to use a powder dishwashing detergent - didn’t matter which brand - and only 1 Tablespoon per load no matter the setting, as well as using a cleaning pod once or twice a year. I have had absolutely no issues since following this advice. Love Miele!

Which dishwasher cleaning pod is recommended from Amazon? Does it matter which one? i see one called Affresh. thx
