br40 overhead lights

last modified: 6 years ago

We have overhead lighting in the house and our old bulbs are incandescent 65W 450 lumens. Unfortunately it seems they have now banned incandescent light bulbs here, so I'm stuck with either LED or fluorescent lighting, both of which I have always found way too bright and which aggravate my eyes and give me headaches if I spend any length of time under them. The first attempt with an LED replacement resulted in insanely bright lighting, and I realized the lumens in these bulbs were 1400, which no doubt explains it - that's 1000 lumens more than the original bulbs! The problem is, I've been looking around for alternative bulbs and I can't find a single 450 lumens bulb that isn't incandescent. Is there any bulb available today that would approximate this level of lighting? What suggestions do you have for the BR40 bulb that would produce the light that is gentlest and easiest on the eyes? Appreciate your feedback!
