for shear production ... royal standard multiplies faster than a rabbit ... and its a pretty fragrant show... when the masses of flowers are in bloom .. though individually then arent as powerful as others ...

for shear elegance.... its plantaginea due to size and intensity of bloom ...

Thanks KenI I have a clump plantaginea that is in too much shade so blooming is sparse. Its finally cooling here so will be moving it and planting a bunch of others.

My son got married and took his 90 pound golden retriever (The Foot) with him so I can plant to my hearts content now, have the hosta garden of my dreams and not have to watch them be crushed as the season wears on. No more sticks and pipes hammered into the ground to try to protect them either!

Thanks for your insight. As i lurk I always look for and appreciate your comments. Always like your driveway account. I coddle mine in pots in my little propagation nursery, hoping to keep them alive and growing. The other day i noticed two that had gotten knocked out of their pots, totally unearthed (Re: The Foot) and were happily growing without any soil. Kind of like my leftover tomato seedlings I toss into the compost! Happy growing!

Someday I hope my Plantaginea will be my favorite. It’s first year....so small and no flower. I do love the fragrants for their smell.....but there are others I love for their visual bloom. Notably, Blue Ange, Blueberry Muffins any of the Mouse Ears and this year I am really liking the flower display on Waterslide!

Not usually a fan of hosta flowers but I do really like Royal Standard. So fragrant and elegant!
