Unfortunately I have seen plenty of the Mosaic virus, but this one is new. Per my google research this is likely the Hippeastrum Ringspot Virus, a relatively new tospovirus. I got this Hippeastrum striatum bulb from an ebay seller a few weeks back and noticed the leaves looked a little different than normal mail order stress. Luckily I thought to isolate it and keep it inside away from all of my other amaryllis.

After doing some reading it would seem as if this virus may be able to spontaneously resolve after some growth. Apparently it does not move between the scales of the bulb. Given the systemic nature of most viruses, I don't know if I trust this. However, I am currently experimenting with heat treatments in attempts to cure bulbs of HiMV/TMV/CMV.

I believe there was a scientific study (by Francis O Holmes?) where heat treatments potentially resolved mosaic infections. It would seem as if the 'Redneck Amaryllis Experiment' that was previously posted may have also had some degree of success, but I never saw a full follow up. I would like to know if any others have had success with such experiments.

For now all of my virused bulbs will remain far from other clean bulbs under thrip proof/virus screen and loaded down with systemic insecticides/miticides. I will be attempting to cure them with Hot water treatments at +150° F and various dry heat growth combinations. Any success I have will be shared.
