I would put a fan with a light in the living room. Get a large, white, hugger fan. Yours wouldn't even blow directly on anybody -- just move the room's air -- as the fan wouldn't be above the couches. I just installed my first fan which makes the room so much more comfortable.

It's a very nice space. Instead of a pendant over the sink, how about something more like this over the window (this kind of sconce comes in many different finishes or tweaks in style)

I like lazidazi’s suggestion for a linear fixture lined up with the middle of the vent hood. I would do either a linear fixture or pendant light over the peninsula and either a pendant over the sink or a wall sconce over the sink. Go to a local lighting store and speak with them for suggestions.

Forgot to add I would put a ceiling fan in the living area. There are fans now that are less intrusive and would work well with 8 ft. ceilings.

For the living room, I do like the idea of an unobtrusive fan, with either an up light or no light. I would also center the rug.

I’ve heard that the secret to decorating is Lighting! “Lighting is Everything!” I would add more recessed lighting to your kitchen to brighten up the room and i think it gives the ceiling a clean look. I would add a recessed light above your stove & backsplash. This area is a focal point and should be highlighted with light ( not a fixture ). (A fixture will draw attention away from your focal point.) You could put the light on its own switch along with with the left and right light and Then you can turn it on along with the under cabinet lights to just highlight that wall and countertop if you want. I would add a pendant above your sink to highlight that area as another focal point. Add in a few more recessed lights around the perimeter of the room 4 ft apart from each other. Not too many. Remove the fixture in the center of the room and add a few recessed lights instead. Add matching pendants over the island eating area to highlight that area.

PS... It looks like you have enough perimeter recessed lighting. Just need it over the stove area and in the center of the room.

I agree with more recessed lighting and forgo a fixture. I agree that it would obstruct/draw attention away from your focal point in your kitchen. Even open ones with glass which are stunning but only when they are sparkling clean (personally I would never put in a kitchen simply because I'd be cleaning it all the time). I'm guessing as you are at the final stages you were hoping to just buy a couple of fixtures and be done - no more added expense? I totally get that. But, you've come this far don't just plunk up something to be done. Add the recessed lighting even if you have to wait a little (but not too long) to afford it. It won't be some glorious centre piece but that's the point? Notice your kitchen, notice the warmth of your family room not a fixture in the middle of each room where your first glance will go.

As for over the sink, the idea of a wall mounted sconce is a great idea, I love that look however again, at this stage it may be more involved and cost more than you want to get the wiring over there. A pendant is a great idea and can be quite pretty but just be sure you get one that casts good light for when you're working at the sink.

Dimmers. Consider putting dimmers on all your lights, they can give you perfect lighting whenever you want it. I often dim our kitchen lights while we are eating in the adjoining room. It seems to provide a relaxing setting. Bonus is you can add dimmer switches any time.

Lastly- Well done on your renovation. It looks wonderful, inviting and comfortable. Enjoy you new space!

I now see that you already have an opening for a pendant over the sink, so i wouldn't undo that in favor of a wall sconce. I think I might do this for a pendant (it also comes in nickel)

I'd be tempted by the suggestion for going with a another recessed light, maybe in lieu of something that needs to be cleaned frequently. Still I would probably keep looking for something flush or semi flush to define the center, even if it so simple it only had simple bands of metal surrounding a milky glass. I would think twice about a linear fixture because without an island directly underneath, I'm not sure it would look right.

Mdln I really like the fixtures you sent, especially the 4th and 6th. Can anyone suggest a finish for in the kitchen? Do I play it safe and stick with the brushed nickel? I'm open to suggestions.

I like a hanging light over the sink where the opening currently is. I would find one to have similar lines as your range hood but with a different finish to give it some pizazz!

I would do a short pendant over the sink and two over the peninsula where all three shades are are same or very similar, would do a multi-light center fixture in center of kitchen. Direct light over the peninsula will provide good task light and define the space. Your ceiling light will cast shadows on the counter if you are facing out the living room. Keep metal finishes the same to blend, use textiles, plants and decor to provide color and interest. Suggestions: Island Pendant Over Sink Overhead Ceiling

I would do two fans in the living room, one fan would become a focal point from the kitchen, "stick out in the center", two fans will create balance and move the air better in that size room. Don't put lights in them, match the fan color close to ceiling color. For light do an arch floor lamp on the right side of the sofa and an oversize table lamp on the left side. Oversize Table Lamp (color brings eye to back of room) Arc Floor Lamp The spaces are lovely, take your time, use dimmer switches where ever you can for more flexibility.

@angela_deli what did you end up going with for your countertops? I saw your other post. We are between the same quartzite and granite and actually have the same layout. what is yoyr backsplash also? it looks beautiful
