If the cabs don’t need paint I’d work on hardware change. Some cup pulls for example Pewter or maybe black . A little more of a traditional look than the typical thin modern ones you have. pewter could be really great To play off the heavy veins in the top. Cabs can remain they look good.

White. It's timeless.

What is modern farmhouse subway tile ?

It’s a little hard to tell the condition of the cabinets in the photos; it looks like theres some grime on the bottom of the doors. Does this come off or is the finish damaged? Anything like that will be much more noticeable on white cabinets. If the finish isn’t damaged, I’d vote for leaving the cabinets as is and just changing the hardware; also bleaching or dying the floor tile grout.

If the cabinet finish is severely damaged, For painting, are you open to colors other than white and gray? White will make your floor tile look dingy.

the cabinets do need to be cleaned. they are in ok shape but would look crisper and nicer painted.
I would love to change the flooring one day but that wont happen for now. i really am stuck on gray or white. thanks for the advice

these were the two tiles I was considering but I am not married to either. also if I painted gray I was hoping for a look similar to this.

I have wood cabinets in the kitchen and painted white in the master bath. The white visibly looks dirty more frequently than the kitchen, even though they are used significantly less. Also, I painted those cabinets (5 doors) and it took a lot of time, so keep those things in mind.

You should wait on the backsplash until you’ve decided in your cabinet color. Both of those should take your floor in to consideration, not just the counter since you’re not changing the floor any time soon.

Agree with PP that painting your cabinets white will make the floor look dingy. With the current look the floor is fine and doesn't stand out.

Gray is so trendy it's not going to feel very updated once that trend passes. If you actually like gray and wouldn't tire of it then go for it, but do it because you like it not because it the updating thing to do. With your floor it will be important to find a browner, taupe gray.

Seems like hardware and a whites backsplash will be sufficient for making your space feel fresh; cabinets seem to be in good condition, do you need to paint them?

I agree with those who say do not paint the cabinets. New hardware would be nice. As far as a SW gray color check out Light French Gray.

I like the counter with your current cabinets. Clean the cabinets with the same process you would to prep for paint. You might see a huge difference in the colour of the cabs after doing a deep clean. They will probably look crisper and brighter to you. White won’t look nice with your current floors so you can live with the cabinets as is until you eventually change the floors for a more harmonized look. And yes to changing the hardware. The nice part is you can do all these things first and then decide about painting with no wasted effort.

@danielleeandrade Since you want to paint you cabinets, that color needs to be selected first. But you can probably eliminate the white subway for now, because it is the wrong white for the counter. I think the grey tile looks nice with the counter, but does it look nice with the floor? Since your floor tile is staying, you probably need a greige paint to marry the floor and the counter. I assume that you will paint the yellow walls in the adjacent room to create a more harmonious palette. For now, please prop your grey tile against you cabinets near the floor, (better yet, if you have a counter sample) and post a picture.

So you do not have a style but honestly why did you choose that counter if you were not planning on painting the cabinets IMO the 2 as is do not work at all. But I would not have spent the money on new counters placed on dated style cabinets. As for cabinet color I need to see your floors and hopefully they at least work with the counters.

When choosing a color, there are 117 things that I consider. The permanent elements in the room have strong voices and must influence the choice. I probably wouldn’t choose either with your flooring, unless that is also getting replaced. I like a pretty blue-gray Or gray-green would be a better bet.
